I am fairly new to this cyber world of Lyme patients, but I am writing to find out if there is any type of organized walk or fundraiser for Lyme? Breast cancer has a walk, many other cancers and AIDS, etc all have walks and events to raise money (AND awareness) - I have not heard of anything like this relative to Lyme.... is there something? If not, let's get moving and organize a walk or events which occur simultaneously nationwide or something..... please let me know your thoughts or links to events that already take place - thanks!

It's funny you brought this up, Crabby, because I was just thinking about it today.
Now, if only I could walk more than a block....

I did contact the head of the support group in south eastern PA a few months ago about this very topic. He said it has been talked about in the past, but because most lyme patients are too sick to take part.....
it hasnt come to fruition.

Crabby, great idea. I too like Andie can perhaps walk 1 block if I'm having a good day.
Some are selling the LYME GREEN bracelets like Lance Armstrong's.
Even having LYME AWARENESS booths at farmer's markets, mall, or local celebrations is a start.
Also have a LYME FLOAT in parades! Just a couple thoughts on my part.
Crabby, please hit the enter bar often so we neuro lymies can read/comprehend...thanks a bunch.

California has a Lyme Awareness Month now--the entire month of MAY!!
I am still learning about this, and what it could mean for lyme awareness and how I can do something in my small community where I know NO other lymies.
There was a march on washington one time...but I dont know much about it--I do know that people rode in their wheelchairs!
But as you point out--the walks are NOT usually done by the folks with the disease---they have the support of their freinds and family and usually doctors too. Lyme doesnt have as many friends.
But I'd like to hear more about this and hope someone can get it going! I'd show up with a BUNCH of motorized wheelchairs fore EVERYONE!

well, I am a believer that people should not talk so much about things, but DO things....
that being said, maybe if May is the Lyme month for CA, we can try to get May to be the Lyme month everywhere. (I have NO idea how we make that happen though).
Do you know of any EVENTS in May in CA? Maybe if all of us associated with this website pick a specific day in May to hold an event (small as it may be) and get all of our local newpapers and news stations to cover it, we will be off to a small start.
These things often start small, but if we do it right, will have great growth and awareness potential!
Any ideas anyone? I can start keeping a list and we can see who would like to commit to becoming involved with us..... like I said, we can make it small, but at least it will be a start!

i know on another website they are getting clothing designed, much like breast cancer awarness has. Instead of the bracelets. i know some already have lyme t-shirts.
but maybe a black T-shirt with the lyme green ribon with a tick in the center of the ribbon and lyme disease under it.
and on the back of the T-shirt the website address. Im not good with catchy sayings but we could add that to the back too.
i remember when breast cancer broke out of its shell there was pink stuff everywhere.

There have been some walks and other fund-raisers for Lyme disease research. One was riding mountain bikes to the top of a mountain in Maine, I believe.
I know there was a walk in Illinois for a few years. I remember contributing to that one. Not sure whether they are planning one this year or not.

Author Rebecca Wells' ya-ya group (more than a fan club, they are a support group) is organizing a walk as we speak! And they want it to benefit Lyme disease.
You wanted a walk-a-thon, you got one -- get involved!

Shaz, I enjoyed the yaya's link about their walk-a-thon. Interesting.
In this weekend's paper was this headline that got my attention, "BOWLING FOR BOOBS!" Wow, that got my attention. 2 women had organized 4 events to raise money for breast cancer !
Shaz, perhaps share this w/them just for discussion so they could come up with a good idea for our LYME/TICK disease.

I'd like to participate in a Walk-A-Thon for Lyme Disease. If one is set up, please let me know about this.
I'd be happy to be a team leader for a walking team and helping out in any other ways I can!
~ Thanks!
