My doc gave me Generic Ceftin only 1500Mg a day, sounds like this aint enough to battle this disease. Any suggestions on to how i can convince the doc to prescribe other meds like Biaxin along with Ceftin?

Seems like an adequate dosage to me. You don't want to start out too strong and you also don't want to herx from here to Mars and back.
I was once prescribed 1000mg of Ceftin per day for Lyme.
anything else new? no test results yet?

So is our doc doubting lyme?
I started on 2000 mg/ceftin and 1000 mg/biaxin. Look at Dr. B.'s guidelines for some help.

I think everyone is different in how they need to take meds. For me, my LLMD was much to aggressive and had me on high doses of several antibiotics at the same time to start. I think it made it worse and now I can't tolerate antibiotics at all (stomach-wise).
Some people need to start slowly and see what happens and then maybe add more later. Some are able to handle a lot at once.
Let's not get into criticizing how a LLMD prescribes meds when we don't know a lot about the situation. Good luck with your health whatever the dosage of drugs you take!! Hiker

sounds like plenty to me. especially to start out with.
my LLMd said its not the dosage but the abx itself and its strength.
for instance if you were but on amoxy dose might be 5000mg. thats the example my LLMd gave me.
Cephlasporins(spelling) have helped me kick the longest nastiest of infections over the years. All lyme related since they all happend after tick bite in 2000
Im on Cedax right now 800mg.

For the first 8 months I was in treatment, I was only on Ceftin, too.
I started at 1000 mg. -- ramping up gradually each week to my current dose of 2000 mg a day.
Jst last month, I also started taking rifampin to address my newly-dx Bartonella.
I agree that it's probably all on an individual basis. Fofr me, Ceftin has been a really good choice.

The doses are all greek to me still. My almost 18 year old son is just starting treatment also. His LLMD is starting him on 6 weeks of Augmentin which is Amoxicillin and (to treat Scarlet Fever and begin the Lyme treatment).
Others seemed surprised the dose is only 875 mg Amox and 125 mg clavulanate twice a day (for 6 weeks). Then he'll prescribe something else after the 6 weeks.
When I mentioned this to the doc he said that the daily total, 1750 mg, was a pretty good dose. I'm assuming he means to start with.
Is it common for the docs to start slow and build up?

Juday,
i think dosage is based on many things.
but it is common to start off slow to see how the body handles the abx and then go from there.
Im glad this was done for me....at first i was given 200mg of doxy, i thought wow too low. then about 2.5 weeks into it.....
it started bothering my stomach so much i couldnt eat...it was bad and scary. I cant imagine if i was on a higher dose.
My LLMD also told me he would start slow see how i do then treat agressively.

As Tutu said, you're already suffering pretty badly, I DON'T think the doctor wants to KILL you...! Many docs just start a patient on doxy for the first month to see how they do. This is not an unusual way to start at all.
Now, what ELSE did the doctor say? Did he allay your fears a little? Did you feel he was thorough? Spill the beans, Luke!

Ditto. Ceftin is a good, strong Lyme abx. It may work alone. It helped me stay steady until we figured out that I had Babs as well. My MD likes to try one abx at a time to see how I react and if it can work alone, then we add more in only if needed.
