Does Bactrim DS ALWAYS need to be taken with another antibiotic to be effective? (against Babs)

I was prescribed 200mg Doxy twice a day to go along with 2 Bactrim DS twice a day. Doxy has never done anything positive for me as far as I'm concerned (only caused trouble).

Soooo....I was wondering what other people on here have taken with Bactrim, or if anyone has taken it by itself and found it effective.

Thanks

I'm bumping this.
--------

Please someone who has used Bactrim successfully....
Does it have to be taken with another abx?

I'm doing so badly the last few days that I'm about to stop everything.

I do not have any answer but I would try to contact your llmd to see if you can stop for a couple of days or cut back on the dose..

Some people can not tolerate too much at a time..Or it may be herx..

I have too many fights to help my daughter to ever take the time to know if I have any of this junk...But I was on a generic for bactrim for 10 days for my kidney and I felt so much better everywhere for a month..So it must have some good properties..

I was a bit afraid to try it again because somewhere in the insert it mentioned aplastic anemia as a rare side effect and had a cousin that went down that road..Could be unrelated but made me re think it's use.

Good luck..lymemomtooo

Well, it's not the Bactrim that's causing the pain - it's the other antibiotic that I'm taking with it.

Doc told me the Bactrim wouldn't work unless I took something else with it, and I was wondering if anyone on here had used it by itself successfully.

Hi CLC

I have been using Bactrim DS
for about 4 months and it
has worked Very well for me--

I had taken 5 bottles of Mepron
before I started the bactrim--

I herxed Hard for 19 days straight-
on the Bactrim --
(migraine--Ouch--)

I have made huge progress using
bactrim---

For me bactrim works as well
or better then Mepron--

It is Very Important to take
Artemisinin 100mg 3X aday--
Helps prevent relaps--

Bactrim and Art. seem only
to work on the Babs bugs--

So for the Lyme you need to
add ABX to handle it--

Some of the meds that work
for this is Doxi- Biaxin-
Bicillin- Ketek ect.
there is many others--

You Need to figure out
if you have any co infections
--Very Important--

It seems to me that most folks
have more than one bug--

For me --I have lyme and Babs--

When I started treatment for both-
My progress has Zoomed---->

CLC -I see that you are taking
double doses at one time? --
- Explain -

Doxi worked perty good
for me but you have to
fallow the Instructions
Carefully--
No vitimians ect.
take on time-

Stay away from All Citrus
and cranbarries--cause
-Photo Toxic- reaction-google it--

Also Dairy seems to Lower the
doxi effectiveness a Bunch--

Also what brand of Bactrim
are you using?

Hope this helps --Jay--

Hi Jay,
Thanks for answering. Actually, it's because of your posts that I found out about taking Bactrim for Babs.

I couldn't afford the Malarone (I was taking Malarone and Tindamax) anymore and it sort of stopped working at a certain point, so I asked my LLMD for Bactrim to replace it.

The stuff she prescribed is some generic. Bottle says SMZ/TMP DS 800-160. She prescribed 2, twice a day. I THOUGHT that was a little high, so I've been using 1 and a half - twice a day. (I see that you also think it's too high - you've asked about the double doses. I haven't a clue what's behind the doc's thinking on this.)

Thing is, she said I had to take another ab with it for it to be effective and prescribed 200 mg. Doxy, twice a day.

I don't want to take that. I've been on both IV and oral Doxy in the past and it's never done anything for me - just caused yeast flare-up and pain.

That's why I wanted to know what other people taking Bactrim are taking with it. I'd much rather take Art 3x a day like you're doing.

Like you, I seem to be dealing with Lyme and Babs. Also like you (I think it was you who posted it), the Bactrim has stopped all the sweating.

Don't know what to do about the Lyme. It isn't really being addressed at the moment so I was going to try the Buhner-recommended herbs but I'm not sure what's happening. I've only taken a small amount of stuff but something's not going right. I seem to be deteriorating.

Sorry - this post is too long.

But any thoughts or ideas you have are appreciated. I value the experience of people on this board as much, if not more, than that of the doctors I have been to in the last 2 years.

-Connie

Can't take Zith or other macrolides. They cause heart disturbances.

I guess I'm one of the pioneers of bactrim. I think artemesinin along with it is perfect for babs.

You might consider adding amoxicillin to the mix...there are posts about the combo of amox and artemesinin being effective for lyme.

I'll try to find the one by James H and bump it up.

I'm going on 5 years living a pretty normal life as a result of playing around with what I was told was a dangerous obsolete sulfa drug. Now it's commonly used again.

I've been taking abctrim for a year with good results... I take it along with malarone.. but My LLMD and I are still not 100% about which the bactrim gets at...

All I know is that it has helped quite a bit.

I took this combo for months........

1x a day Bactrim 2x a day Biaxin 500
2x Plaquenil 200
2x Artemisinin 100
2x teaspoon meprom

Presently taking a different combo. I think it was the biaxin that helped the most.

And mepron.........
