Hi all,

I am curious about the hands and feet and whether symptomatology there indicate a specific co infection?

I have always had the brief shooting pains through the centers of my hands, and also through my feet. But before diagnosis, just always dealt with it.

However, it is only since abx therapy that this has worsened and a certain fatigue is added. My question is, my hands get so fatigued I can barely lift them, as well with my feet. These are the days I want to stay in bed all day from exhaustion to my hands, and feet as an endpoint to exhaustion from the rest of me.

Is this a symptom of a co infection or has anyone else had this?

My main question is about the hands fatigue, and feet pain/fatigue.

Anyone know?

Although the relationship is anicdotally derived, there appears to be a common occurace of foot pain with barotenella infection. The specific sytmptom is pain on the bottom of the feet in the AM and on waking. (you do not decribe this though)

The weakness that you describe is common with a large number of serious diseases, basically you just run out of energy and have little reserve capacity.

Lyme bacteria by some accounts releases neuro transmitter binding agents which inhibit or at least reduce the release of neurotransitter chenicals across the synaptic gap. This could also account for severe transient weakness.

As far as the pain in the hands goes this is pretty common with Lyme. It basically feels like someone just shoved a nail through you hand/arm etc. This is most likly of neuropathic origin (yes it is real it just originates in brain as opposed to the spot where the pain occurs). It can be so severe that you drop thing or trip/fall when they occur.

Going back to the neuro transmitter blocking aspect, when the bacteria is Lysed (broken appart) by the abx, there are all sorts of pieces of junk proteins (ie cehmical compounds) from the oraganism released. I really think it is these pieces of junk that cause the intensification of the problems you desribe once the antibiotics start to work.

Without all the explanation, some would describe what you are encountereing as a herxhiemer and an indicator that the antibiotics are doing their job. This is a good thing.

Can you explain your foot pain more, where it hurts, what type of pain?

Foot pain can also come with babesia. But I also have foot pain that is related to tight muscles in my hips and buttocks. The pain is referred. My foot pain is mostly balls of my feet, and inside the ankle. Sometimes the arch hurts as well.

My hand pain comes from tight muscles in my shoulder area. I spent a month with wrist splints because I was misdiagnosed as having tendinitis. I seem to remember my LLMD saying strep infections cause shoulder problems that can refer.

I have started to experience this foot pain recently too..in the mornings when I get up and hit the floor, my feet just ache for a couple hours. It's not the worst symptom, but just another "weird one" that has started..

Hi thanks for the responses!

This whole brain neurotransmitter thing is nuts to deal with in so many ways on so many levels.

The feet ... shooting pains right through the centers to my bones when I step on it sometimes.

Other times, pain/fatigue on the joint/connection thing just below to the ankle a little forward and also through the joints to the bones. Also at the center of the foot.

With the hands, also straight through the center to the bones in two different places.

The extreme weakness and fatigue...also at the centers of my hands and then through the top of my feet at that bone/joint there not far from the ankle.

Of course, I am not mentioning the rest of the pain everywhere else! Just concerning self with the hands and feet to see if it indicated a co infection.

My entire legs feel as if they are going to fall off, hips are totally shot.

I'm a mess!!

Turtle,

It sounds like you may be having a lot of pain from tightened muscles. This happens through muscle inflammation and spasms. I know it doesn't feel like muscles, but referred pain does feel like it's the bones or tendons. This was proved to me when pressure down on muscles in my shoulder caused similar hand pain.

A very gentle massage therapist or physical therapist who does myofascial release might help. That was crucial to eliminating my hand pain.

Also, if it is muscular, a muscle relaxer can help. I need to take Flexeril every night. My muscles just tighten in response to the lyme or other co-infections.

For the feet, wearing ankle supports really helps me. I use the ones that look like an ace bandage but are elastic. Something about the pressure almost immediately reduces the pain in my feet. It also reduces pain in my hips, which makes me think it changes my posture.
