In the last 13 months of treatment I have had two major herx.
The first was 2 weeks after originally starting ABX which had me passing out in ER.
The second a couple of month ago after returning to ABX (after a one week rest) and I passed out completely before I could get to ER.
Both these herx occurred an hour after the addition of Cat's Claw to my ABX doses, BTW.
I concider neither herx "a flare up" and both scared the hell out of me because of their severity.
Over the last 13 months of steady (except for one week last january mentioned above) and daily doses of antibiotic and antiprotozoa meds I have had symptom flares (in my case burning brain).
The cause I believe, was due to low saturation of my meds from either dose timing, medication types, food/vitamin intake timing, or generic abx that typically vary 20% in concentration.
With the exception of my two herx events mentioned above, I have had good response with the addition of CC for easing the burning brain symptom during flares and normally do not experience side effects.
I'm sort of wandering here on all this, but I have pondered the simularity of symptoms from low ABX doses and elevated toxin levels because my symptoms are much the same (burning brain).
The two completly different responses I get from Cat's Claw makes me believe that it is doing much more than funtioning as an herbal anti-inflammatory.
I believe CC kills Bb and gets passed the BBB quickly, from normal doses.
The trick maybe, is to get the toxins back out thru the BBB effectively before the herx.

Stephen Buhner of "Healing Lyme" says Cat's Claw promotes our NK cells (natural killer) and I think that is what is killing the Bb.
I herxed badly on it too. I'm not taking anything else until I get rid of my amalgams and chelate the heavy metals. I have tested positive for all mercury forms as well as aluminum and silver.
Also, I have 5 root canals that probably have to go, I am getting 2nd and possibly 3rd opinions on that one, but feel they are preventing me from healing as I should.

WOW, Luvs, YES, get rid of the root canals and silver/merc.
I am going in on Wednesday to get rid of one more silver/merc filling. I have about 4 or 5 of them to get rid of, and one more root canal.
BUGMENOT:
You do not say WHAT abx you were on at the time when you herxed. ALSO you do NOT say WHAT herbs you are taking to CLEANSE out your body of the TOXINS. We can't understand anything IF you don't state those things.
Also, what OTHER herbs are you using? AND was this WHOLE Herb Cat's Claw, or the TOA-free?
