I have NO idea how much mine cost...but I'm sure mine was on the upper end of things. It was done in a hospital, by an MD, using ultrasound (or something like it) to guide what he was doing...he could see my heart and vein the whole time, and positioned it right where he wanted it. I could watch too. My insurance covered it.
I'm sure there are lesser expensive ways to do this. This doctor was a friend, and he wanted to put it in, and I was glad to have him do it.

I had my Picc line insertion done in the radiology department in the hospital. It was done under ultrasound guidance and cost about 3,000 dollars. This included the hospital fee and the dr's fee. I live in NJ......hope this helps. All of it was covered by my insurance.

I had it done in hospital by radiologist under scan too...safest way to go! $3,000.00 in Md. It helps to know that first 24 hrs. it is a bit uncomfortable, then the body warms it up and you don't even know it is there! Make sure you keep the paper of how long it is what was put in you into your wallet and I kept a copy on my frig door, just incase I needed it. I found in Walmart the oversized stretchy white socks like 12 in a bag. I cut them after rib line and used them to put over picc site and keep extension covered, works well. Hope that helps....

It don't know the cost but my kids had their PICC lines inserted at home. A company called PICC STAT did the insertion. A portable x-ray company came to our home to check for line placement.

Insurance coverage may dictate which option is available.
First, can be done at hospital. Other method can be done at home or if patient is in a facility such as a subacute center or long term care facility. Geography really not important in terms of the procedure: geography is only important to the insurance carrier: for $$$
PICC are peripherally inserted midline central cathether, allows the flows of iv substances that are strong or needed for a longer treatment interval to be inserted. It thereby goes in a larger vein to allow this. Of course, sterile technique is needed as is invasive proceedure. A radiologist or radiology trained picc insertion nurse can do insertion. Placement is checked using radiology to insure the cathether is in the middle , so to speak , in the vein: middle of the stream and ends in the proper place: indicated by a result saying positive placement. At that point, the device is ready to be used.
Cost is , in my area, as my last Picc was Oct 05 between 2 to 3 thousand dollars. Variation in cost will occur because of where it was placed ( Hospital, or home) the professional inserting it credentials, time involved in proceedure, and perhaps if services were subcontracted out such as to to a Picc insertion company.
Insurance should cover costs.
Best wishes you should be okay.
