Just got on IV rocephin, well been at it for about a week. I know many of you have used this abx in the past but now the protocols are pretty aggressive. Instead of 2g a day for x amount of months. They're giving me 2g's 2x a day everyday for 6 weeks. Has anybody out there gotten this protocol. If so how have they done on it?

4 grams a day is pretty common now, it's just that you usually have atleast the weekends off.
Are you sure its every day? Why only 6 weeks?
After the 6 weeks, then what? [confused]

Yes It is 2gms a day twice a day for 6 weeks no lies there. The pharmacy has gone over it again and again with me. At first I was thinking hmm 6 weeks only but then I'm noticing people that have had it longer did not get it as often as I'm getting. Apparently this is a new protocol from Dr B. They are monitoring my GallBladder and I am taking actigall as well as Olive Oil and milk thistle. After the 6 weeks I will get evaluated again and we'll go from there. The funny thing is that of all the people on this board I haven't found anybody taking it as frequently as this. I'm also doing Bicillin LA twice a week.

Foggy,

I was prescribed 2g rocephin 2x/day, 5 days on, 2 days off.

Be careful of candida and GI problems, the rocephin was much worse than the orals when it came to those issues for me.

I also found that having food in my stomach during the infusions, and taking at least a half hour for the infusions, helped prevent nausea.

Good luck,
P

the six week time interval is maybe what the doctor could push through insurance at one time before re evaluation.... I'm guessing- the other board members are probably more knowledgable about daily dosing and pulsing.
