Hi
I know this may be a delicate subject for people to share.
I think over the years the lyme may be slowing down my system.
Am off on a stomach holiday from abx & was hoping it would improve.
I have tryed Senna tea: Senna tabs stoolsoftners phisillium caps & powder extra C & mag herbal caps like : "colon clense" liquid mag citrate eating lots of fiber.
Nothing is making a difference except the liqiud mag citrate-1/2 bottle. Not sure this is safe on a daily basis.
Anyone have any sugestions?
I have been in the search department and haven't found anything that I haven't tryed.
Thanks for any suggestion you might want to share.

I have the same problem. It could be Lyme, but it could also be exacerbated by some of your medications. I take trazodone, and I know it is constipating. [darn!]
I would suggest doing an actual colon cleanse. After being on so many antibiotics for so many years, my chiropractor told me that I probably have a "lining" in my intestinal tract that prevents nutrients from being absorbed.
Only a cleanse or colonic will get that out! I seem to be making progress with the cleanse I'm doing now. Have even seen some parasites....don't want those!
Some cleanses can be constipating also, believe it or not!!! I'm using the cleanse from www.drnatura.com right now. It's much easier to comply with than the one my chiro sold me.
I'm not having any trouble with constipation on this cleanse.
I also take Multi-Fiber by Nature's Secret. You can check the ingredients and great price at www.vitacost.com
I'm counting on getting things straigtened out and no longer having to worry about constipation! That would be quite the victory!
PS....I've taken everything you listed and still take several of those myself.

Thanks Lymetoo
for the great tips.
One question: does the colon clense you are on from drnatura make you loss any weigt?
I have wanted to do a colon clense but am afraid of lossing more weight.
I will order the multi fiber you listed. Can't see any ingredients that could hurt.
Thanks heatherkiss for the coffee suggestion. I would like to not depend on the coffee too much as caffine can back fires on me.
I think it is a combination of my meds and years of abx and herxing but also feel the lyme can make the intestines sluggish.
In my years in remmision I did notice that this problem wasn't as bad.
Take care dana

in the spirit of our friendship and laughs. A stick of dynamite. I am so constipated from lyme, meds and everything: I am going to wake up one morning my blue eyes will be brown!
On a serious note: maybe some of the colonics other people are recommending may help. I am going to try coffee enemas now. Perhaps ther are some other links on the board too.
I'd watch the mag citrate- don't need to get electrolytes out of whack on top of everything else.
Stay strong my friend!

unfortunately, IBS w/ constipation is just one of my worst Lyme symptoms - dunno, but i hear these bugs like to colonize the gut.
i did a lot of research and hit upon this stuff called "Lactulose" - its a kind of synthetic sugar.
all i read about lactulose kinda made it seem really good to me: allegedly, it helps change the pH in the gut for the better (helps acidify gut) - it is known to encourage fermentation of bifidobacteria and other good gut bacteria, so its kind of a prebiotic - it supposedly helps scavenge and and reduce extra ammonia in the body - and on top of all that - it increases bowel movements by pulling more water into the GI tract....
its does have a drawback - it can make you have a lot more gas as things in there ferment it... oh well.
its by prescription, usually called "Krystalose" so i got my doc to give it to me and have been very pleased with it - its probably placebo but i swear it makes me feel better - and it does do what its supposed to in the "going" department, very gently though - no cramps or anything.
I would def. recommend giving lactulose a "go" if nothing else is working.
oh - and it tastes very pleasant, which is a plus.
Unless someone knows how much it takes out of you. After 7 days have to get out the gloves
I almost hate to go, knowing the hrs. I am facing, BTW, that is when my temp drops really low, the sweats. Think 1 time even passed out finding my self on bath fl.
Having med background I know how to go in get the impactions, still NOT fun.
I have upped my probiotics, magnesium tabs.
Less often but I feel for you. Heck how could I work outside home, imagine 3 hrs. of potty time. Do not think that would fly,lol
heck, if it is not thing is another
I have literally had toilet block up many a time + numerous other. Prior meds. nor on lyme treatment. None around,arghh.//
Know of 1 in Fl. He will treat if you tell him what you know & want he is not on my plan. Heard many pro`s con`s
Have no idea what I am talking about, no sleep. hitting me know... Crashing big time sorry, mind **** down too. Chat latter Kerry
I do truly feel for you, know one knows how 1 can pass a bowling ball, lol

Kerry....Me thinks you need to address this problem with a good cleanse or some of that Multi-Fiber I mentioned....sure helps. No wonder you're still very ill!

my doc suggested a shot glass worth of aloe vera juice after each meal. sure enough, after about a week of this, i was much improved.
btw, aloe vera juice is "an acquired taste." i add a shot of white grape juice, some water for dilution, and just chug the thing so i don't taste anything.
i use Nature's Way organic aloe vera juice & gel. refridgerate it after opening.

surfack, senecot, lactalose, fiber..... all at the same time...
nothing worked ...
I had to go to the gastro dr.
he put me on zelnorm and now I am fine.
( from what I was told zelnorm makes your intenstines spasm more to push things along)
If you are on pain meds, it can make the problem worse.
Best wishes
Hi Azure..you seemed to be successful with Zelnorm and I am happy for you.
I just wonder if you got diarrhea from it. I am at lost of what to try and my dr. gave me something else to try before Zelnorm. I am having many problems and feel so sick and bloated.
My concern is if it is harsh reacting my spinter muscle does not work very well and know I would definitely be home for the long haul. I don't need loose stools in the least, yuck!!
I am in situation I don't know what to. Any answer would be great from your experience ffrom zelnorm..Thank you.

I got diarreahea like the 1st or 2nd day I took t.... It only lasted that one day though...
Since then I have been fine....
I have been on it since the summer of 05.
I take two a day but if your problem isnt as bad your dr. may only prescribe it once a day.

I just had a back-up for 2 weeks... I tried colon cleansing, fiber, milk of mag, anything, and everything to get something out.... Called my PCP when cramping showed up yesterday... No call-back.
My boyfriend and I ended up in the emergency clinic late last night where they did x-rays and found a rather large load waiting to drop. The Dr. RXd Go-Easy, and a suppository (can't remember which one), but when all was said and done, I've lost 7 pounds in the last 12 hours!
But when it comes to constipation, I've been there, done that, and don't want to do it again. 7 pounds of bile!!! That's a newborn baby!
-------------------- Sometimes when I say Oh, Im fine I want someone to look me in the eyes & say tell the truth
Second, sometimes gastro issues are reproductive issues in disguise. I have severe endometriosis and only had severe constipation as my symptom for alomst 3 years. The only thing that would SORT of help it was pysillium husks with tons of water daily.
There is research linking lyme with endo.
We have found since then that adhesions wrapped around my colon and kinked it and pulled it out of place. fun fun.
It is something to consider. as if you dont have enough on your plate as it is.
much luck, Trails

Zelnorm worked great for me... for awhile. Then it began to lose its effectiveness and I developed other abdominal pain, which I suspect was my gall bladder.
In the original literature that came out with Zelnorm, it was only to be prescribed for a certain length of time - 6 weeks, I think - with another "round" as a possible option if your doctor recommended it. It was never intended to be a long-term medication. I even called the manufacturer and asked about this.
I've tried to take it since then, and rather quickly, I get the same additional pains in my gut, so I think it is no longer an option for me.
Seems like gall bladder problems are often a consequence of Zelnorm use, so proceed with caution, and pay attention if you developp other gut pains or symptoms.
I've ordered a homeopathic remedy that is supposted to help speed up the transition of food through the intestines. I'll post about it if it works/ helps.

I can totally relate. Here are some things that helped me get over the hump so to speak.
Alkaline Diet - most important !!! Cut down on meat consumption ( meat is heavy and harder for the body to evacuate) Goji Berries Prunes just a couple ( The sugar feeds the lyme) Absolutely No Dairy Products ( They are really binding) Ground Flax Seeds Distilled water enemas when it got really bad. Chiropractic adjustments. Some people said that Triphala and ayurvedic herb is extremely helpful but it did not help me.
Good luck !!
