Last week I got a VERY stiff neck (and a VERY sore left elbow). They both occured at the same time for no reason (other than that I have lyme disease). I could not turn my neck at all, either direction.

Over several days, they both got better. My elbow is totally fine now, and my neck remained sore...just not as bad as it first came on.

Now my neck seems to be getting worse. It is very difficult to move it.

Any of you ever get a stiff neck? How long before it improved? Did a heating pad help?

In the beginning of my treatment, my neck was extremely painful! I found that wearing a cervical collar helped somewhat.

In time and with treatment it will go away!

I remember burning the skin on my neck when I wrapped the heating pad around it... [Eek!]

On my first LLMD appt he said i had typical Lyme neck. ugh

time is usually what helps mine. it usually goes away when they decide to invade another body part.

I have a still neck most of the time. Comes with the dd.
I see a chir regularly, and have recently started cranial sacral release therapy, or myofascial release. Both help the neck; done by a PT.

Yes! Been there! I agree with hurtin'....cranial sacral and myofacial release or active release should help alot. If you're brave enough and have a good chiro, go for it!

Stiff nech is a common symptom of Lyme.

The neck and elbow weren't coincidences. Most likely, the elbow was sore because the neck muscles were putting pressure on a nerve referring pain to your elbow. For 2 years I had constant hand pain, was put in wrist braces, only to find out the real source was my shoulder muscles.

Yes, I have a very very stiff neck! The latest one lasted for 2 weeks and 2 massages and a chiropractic visit and galvanic treatment did nothing for it. I just rubbed arnica oil and st johns wort oil on it and grinned and beared it. It still is stiff but the pain upon trying to turn it at all has subsided a little bit.
Hang in there! I also found Turmeric helps with the inflammation. I take 1 TB of tincture everyday and that helps with the neck, elbow and wrist pain a bit.

Thanks for all of your replies. At least I'm not alone in the Stiff Neck Society!

Since it is difficult for me to turn my head a lot while driving, I managed to back into a mailbox today! [bonk] I knew that there was no car, or anything LARGE behind me, but the mailbox was not in my field of vision, since I couldn't turn my neck a lot. UGH!

Fortunately, the mailbox survived. [Big Grin]

I think I'll refrain from moving the car backwards if at all possible!

I had a horribly sore neck and back for years. When I started supplementing with magnesium my pain and stiffness went down about 90%. Most days I don't even think about my neck or back. I have other lyme-related problems but excruciating back and neck pain are no longer part of my day-to-day life.

I've had a really stiff neck since I got sick. My back and spine hurt really bad too. It comes and goes some what, but mostly it hurts.

This memeber of the Abdominal Agony Association suggests a mobile TENS unit on that stiff neck of yours! I have one and insurance paid for it too. You need a Rx from a doctor and you get it at a Medical supply store, that, plus massage, Boswellia cream, Fish and Plant oils and chiropractic...ahhh....much better [Smile] [toilet]

Boswellia cream? What's that? Where do I get it? (Always nice to hear from another member of the AAA! [hi] )

I was visiting with a friend yesterday who is a PT. I was holding my neck with my hands during a good part of the visit, for my cool hands felt good on my aching neck.

SO...the subject of my neck came up, and she said that she would do an ultrasound on it, but her machine was out of town. [Frown] Oh well.

Anyone know the difference between an ultrasound and a TENS unit?? I see my PCP on Thursday and maybe I'll ask her for a script in case it doesn't go away soon....

I am taking our smaller car out driving today...it's easier to back up. [Big Grin] But I'm going to try to not back up at all...park in spots that allow me to drive forward out of them, if at all possible!

Hold a good thought for me....I'm co-hosting a 4 hour CE course on Lyme for the hospital nurses this afternoon!
