Since last night I started to get a coming and going pretty mild pain in my abdomen on the left side just under ribcage. Figured it was intestinal and no biggie.

But, the pains have gotten a little stronger, more frequent and now is also moving across my upper abdomen towards right side also.

I just googled symptoms and pancreatitis came up, not a good thing, so I don't want to read anymore scary stuff. Does anyone have idea of other possibilities that are less scary?

I should add that my stomach is not swollen, it is not painful to touch, it is purely internal pains at this point.

What meds are you taking?

I had abdominal pain from rocephin (gallbladder attack), and liver problem with mepron after a long treatment. The abdominal pain with mepron also came with skin itching on the abdomen. In both cases, it required stopping the meds for a while.

But maybe it isn't your meds.

Hi, Thanks Lou.

I'm not itching.

I am on Malarone daily, Nystatin daily, Ketek Mon-Fri and Diflucan Fri and Sat. And the pains did not start anywhere near liver, which I assume would happen with liver pain (i.e. that it would not be referred to left of abdomen).

I am hoping it is just gastritis of some kind. It comes every couple of minutes or so and the pain lasts just a couple of seconds, maybe 5 secs max at a time.

I've had pancreatitis, and if that's what you had, there would be no questions. It is VERY painful, pain also refers to the back and you are nauseous and vomit.

The area you describe is also home to the ascending colon. Given the coming & going nature of the pain, it could just gas or some spasming both of which are uncomfortable in their own right.

Hope it improves.

DLL,

Do I remember right that you've been treated for babesia? I'm having some mystery abdominal issues. My LLMD thinks it is pancreatitis.

She has seen pancreatitis in 3 Lyme patients, all had been treated for babesia. Not enough for a real pattern, but has her thinking.

Do you have your digestive enzymes tested regularly? My pancreatic enzymes are up, so it's a hint. Plus sonogram, HIDA scan, endoscopy and colonoscopy all show me fine. I'm also getting tested for over 300 food allergies.

Hi Aniek,

As it happens, since I posted that a few days ago, it turned into a thing I've had before, which I thought I had overcome - 'popping' pains ALL over my intestines that come and go (it moved away from the original place which I thought might be pancreas)......and I now have what I call 'jacuzzi stomach' again with on/off diarrhea.....not sure it's Ketek or what is cause, but seems to happen on Ketek. Or yeast, not even sure.

if it keeps up I would get an abdominal ultrasound and do a stool test for c.diff. Do you have diarrhea? Could be yeast, gas and bloating. Could be your gallbladder, it could be a bunch of things, or something simple like gas. Hang in there..try not to panic. Call your doc if it doesnt go away or gets worse. [Smile]

Could it be your spleen?

WC,

Thanks. I've had about 5 C Diff tests in the last 5-6 months, all negative. The problems I have are sporadic (so is the diarrhea usually when I get it is it only once or twice that day after I take the Ketek)........and yes, gas and a LOT of rumbling too (I call it jacuzzi stomach) with 'popping' pains randomly in abdomen and vague aches.

It might be yeast, although I take Nystatin daily 4x and, apart from 4 weeks in a row where I was unable to, I take Diflucan twice a week also.

The problem had gotten a LOT better since I stopped Primal Defense in January, but soemthing last weekend triggered it (sugar free Pumpkin Pie, no crust??? too fatty?? coincidence???) I don't know but it was the only major different thing I had.

Seeing my LLMD in about 3 weeks and will discuss again if it continues, which I hope it doesn't, I don't want to have to keep interrupting treatment.

But I appreciate all input from all, thanks. Mathias, not sure about spleen, probably not as it's not focussed on one area as it was to start.

So, this is random, but before I started treatment I had similar symptoms. They were really bad once when I was travelling and, got worse when I ate mashed pumpkin! I know, kind of funky, huh?

I also didn't feel so good last week after eating mashed sweet potatoes. There was nothing added, just baked sweet potatoes mashed.

Interesting...

Did a quick google search. Pumpkin is supposed to help with diarrhea. It's very high in fiber.

Hey!
the sugar free pumpkin, or anything with sucralose, mannitol, any of those sugar free flavorings can wreck havoc on the intestines. Trust me, try eating one sugar free chocolate bar and you will never do it again, goes right though you and oh the rumblings!
Soo...could be the sweetener.
The ketek itself is hard on the gut so it can be that too. When you take it, take with food and water, it will help. Ketek gave me c.difficile so keep an eye out. Peppermint oil can help ease the gut, you might want to try peptogest caps. they help me a bit.

Pumpkin is a gigh glycemic veg, so it has quite a bit of natural sugar in it like carrots and corn do. I can't eat any xylitol or some of the other articial sweetners without them messing up my digestive tract. They react with something, maybe the yeast. Your grumblings may be due to other high glycemic or starchy foods that you are eating.
