I quit abx for quite a while due to liver pain and was doing better but still had a lot of neuro symptoms. I decided to go back to my LLMD and he started me on Zithromax in December at a very low dose.

I'm only on 0.5 ml 2x per day and noticed I'm getting pain in the liver/gallbladder area and am getting more and more brown spots which to me means toxins in the liver.

Any recommendation as to what to try next? I've done castor oil packs, colonics, milk thistle, many supplements and the list goes on. I recently tried folic acid for the brown spots and thus far have seen no improvement.

Any thoughts or has anyone been in the same situation? I feel like my body is saying no to abx.

TA,

I had the same problem and I did lots of Milk Thistle, castor oil packs and a probuct by Vital Nutrients called Liver Support. Yes, I too have some of those brown spots and know that means problems.

I heard for brown spots Folic Acid can be helpful. Hopefully others will come along and respond to this.

Maybe GiGi will have some thoughts on this.

embryologically, the skin and one or more parts of teh brain develop from teh same embryological structures.

one hypothesis on brown spots on the skin is that they reflect something going on in those(s) corresponding parts of the brain from which both skin and brain derived, developmentally.

i've watched brown spots develop on one of my hands, and on one of my thighs. with antibiotic therapy some have disappeared, some remain, and two other have faded in intensity of hue. i should say all those that remain have all faded in color.

Tickalert,

I have the same pain in the liver/gallbladder area. I also am just recovering from having jaundice for a couple of weeks.

I'm afraid I don't have any recommendations, because I'm still trying to find something that helps too.

What does your doctor think is the source of the pain? So far, my dr is saying drug-induced hepatitis.

Does your doc think it's ok to continue abx despite this pain? Any particular ones he says you should avoid? Ketek & all the macrolides (zith & biaxin) caused the pain for me originally, but now I have it on augmentin that I just started 6 days ago. Emedicine lists the macrolides & augmentin & rifampin & flagyl as common causes of drug-induced hepatitis.

What tests have you done? My liver enzymes show ok, and an ultrasound showed no gallstones. Since I'm still having pain even though we stopped all the macrolides that seemed to be the original cause, I guess I'll be doing a gallbladder function test in 2 weeks.

Any chance your tongue also burns? I've wondered if that is a symptom of a liver in trouble.

I don't mind telling you that this has been the scariest experience in my entire 3-year illness. I'm very stressed about it & about what I can take & should not take.

Since we share this problem, how about keeping in touch & sharing any ideas our doctors give?
