I found this site a couple of years ago when my then four year old son got a bite, had the bullseye, but no tick was found. The bite swelled up and ended up looking like a bouncy ball stuck to his chest. THe doctor's stated that it couldn't be lyme because nobody removed a tick for him. They tested anyway, which came back negative, but I was informed from many on this site that it was too early to test anyway. they did put him on 6 weeks of antibiotics anyway just to make sure. I have been watching him for any signs or symptoms that I read about but have tried to be optimistic. He often complains about chest pain and I took him in for it awhile ago - they thought maybe reflux, but that was not the cause. He recently began complaining about his underarm hurting and yesterday stated that his hip on the same side hurts. I made an appointment and took him in today. They prescribed motrin 2xday for 1 week and then come back but stated that she does not know what would cause the pain and stated maybe "growing pains". I know that chest pain is not normal for a five year old to have on and off (mostly on) for several years! He also has been very sensitive (cries about everything) and sleepy lately. He has trouble going to sleep at night and could sleep all day if I would let him. He is normally VERY active and loves sports, does flips and handstands, runs all day everyday, etc. I was just wondering what the thoughts are from some of the experts - those living with this disease!!! Thanks in advance to anyone who has any info or advice. BTW, they did agree to do bloodwork next week when I take him back for a follow-up.

Hi Janet,

My boy turns five soon.

Growing pains are not suppose to be so horrible you cry!

Your boy sounds like mine.

It may be that your boy doesn't know how much pain he is in because it is just part of his life, you know?

The biggest question I can ask you is, "When he takes an antibiotic does he get sick a week or two later?

I can remember telling the pediatrician that my little one was "allergic to antibiotics!" He got sicker after he took them than he did for what was making him ill.

One child constantly had ear infections, sinus infection, strep...blah, blah blah...

the other kid seemed so healthy but was failure to thrive as an infant. One day when he was three he told me he couldn't walk. When I took him to the doc the duck said he had bacteria in his hip and it would go away.

Husband and I weere diagnosed by then so we had him tested.

I would contact Dr. J and have your son's blood sent to IGENEX or Bowen.

You are a good Mommie--don't let anyone tell you different--you know if your child is sick.

Listen to your "Mommie Voice."

Linda

Who is Dr. J and how do I contact him? I don't know if the military would allow me to get a sample and send it anywhere. I am willing to do what is necessary though. I am just not sure how to go about it. No, he doesn't appear to get wrose from antibiotic treatment. However, he hasn't needed them a lot lately either.

I got this disese when I was young...

part of the bs they told me was growing pains too...

Linda is right listen to your mommie voice.

You need a llmd to determine if these symptoms are actually lyme.

There are very few drs willing to diagnose and treat lyme adequately.

(mostly for political reasons)

Don't forget lyme diagnosis is a CLINICAL diagnosis which mean it should be made by considering symptoms....

Not based solely on a test..

Even at the best labs like IGENEX, tests are still not 100% accurate so

your son could test neg and still have lyme.

If you need a lyme literate dr (llmd) go to seeking a dr.

People will pm you the info (or you could include your email if you prefer)

we do not post drs names on the board.

(once again for political reasons to protect our drs.)

Best wishes [Smile]

Also you will find alot of interesting stuff in the newbie links at the top of the page.
