I have always had excellent teeth and gums--only 2 fillings. This week my gums are swollen and bleeding. I take no antibiotics. Is this connected to Lyme? Suggestions? Hiker

Hi Hiker,
I just read on Dr. Jemsek's website that they have seen some patients with gum disease. I don't believe they elaborated, but it would be worth a google.
Best Wishes, Char

One of the vitamins I was deficient in was folic acid. When I increased my intake significantly an additional benifit was my gums improved and my mouth "cleaned" up. You can google folic acid and see the connection to dental health.

Cave--I am female and my cycle is becoming irregular at age 43--am having a long PMS right now! I take the usual daily vitamin, extra vit. B, magnesium, omegas, seizure meds, and I am on the vit. C/salt protocol.

Under Lyme disease symptoms it says: Non-healing infections in the jaw bone, devitalized teeth, dental pain
This worried me and then I read your post.
I've always had great teeth, too...now I have receding gums (and it's not hereditary). I definitely think Lyme & co's can wreak havoc on your teeth and gums. Scary.
Thanks mlkeen! I'll try Folic acid.
p.s. I also am getting irregular periods at the age of 43. Do you know how long you've had Lyme, Hiker?

I have had Lyme for 3 years. I have no tooth pain, so hopefully if I brush, floss (use swish around Lymeetoo's Xango)my gums will be better. It is only on one area.
Ironically I had cavitation pictures taken last year and where I am no having the gum bleeding is not where I show cavitations. Go figure!
I also switched toothbrushes today. We'll see what happens. Hiker

I am a female, 52, active, had Lyme most of my life, but didn't know it until I reached 48 yrs. Gums bled alot, until I suspected the fillings (I lived in Arkansas where floridation is NOT). I had alot of cavities, that were filled with amalgam fillings (composite mineral materials). I had all my fillings changed out to enamel, and the bleeding stoped. Literally I could not eat a potatoe chip without it potentially cutting my gums, resulting in bleeding. After the change of fillings, everything stopped. I was not being treated for Lyme at the time. Hope this helps.

I think CoQ10 helps gums...check it out and you could take that...Dr B recommends it as a supplement for Lymies anyway.
