Hello, I was diagnosed in Feb of this year, and have begun treatment. My LLMD ordered an MRI due to the fact that I am having severe low back pain, and it showed that I have a ruptured disc. The doctor said that I will need to have surgery. I have been told that lyme can really compicate the healing process after surgery, and I am concerned. Can anyone shed some some light on this topic?

Well it's a long story but if you would like to see the details read my posts from October.
I had lyme symptoms 13 years ago and had treatment but not adequate.
I ended up having cervical spine surgery 8/05. I received IV Vancomycin pre-op. I was given steroids post-op. Four days post-op developed numbness, tingling, twitching, weakness, and been ill ever since. I just started lyme treatment again after multiple neuro appts. and tests.

i have severe bulges at c7-t1 and throughout the lumbar spine. after going to a ortho doc, he said surgery is not warranted due to my lyme. he recommended loosing weight, therapy and no steroids.
so far so good, but i have some really miserable days.
i would never, ever have back surgery.....(unless i was facing death or paralysis).....

Thank so much for the info. It sounds like there is alot more to this than I thought. The last thing I want to do is complicate my lyme, so I will be looking into alternative treatments, and seeing what I can find. I am ready for some relief from the pain, but not at the expense of my health. thanks again
