anyone experience what seemed like a "heart attack" with racing heart beat and chest pains while on Biaxin (I'm also taking a bunch of vitamin supplements, culterrelle, etc)?

I had short-ness of breath that led to a racing heart beat and chest pains that seemed to last for 10-15 minutes. I had a stress test for my heart done back in Nov (for check-up for my heart) and it was totally fine so I don't think this was "heart-related". Since this happened 2 days ago my chest seems to be tight. I checked my bpressure and heart beat and it's normal.

anyone have this happen? does abx sometimes cause this? maybe I'm just stressed out!

Did you call ur dr?

I would.

Lyme can effect the heart.

I used to get palpitations but they went away with treatment.

Best wishes [Smile]

Definitely sounds like babesia. You are probably herxing and that is causing your heart to race. Keep a close eye on it.

Call your dr if it continues!

I had similar symptoms and never had a positive cardiac exam. Like Azure, my symptoms have gone away with abx therapy also.

I'm only being treated for Bb.

One of my initial lyme symptoms was tachycardia (racing heart) for 45 minutes. This was followed by a 30 hour bout of extreme fatigue. I was checked out by a cardiologist (24 hour holter monitor, echo and EKG). Everything was fine.

As my lyme symptoms progressed (and we didn't know it was lyme at the time) I continued to have bouts of tachycardia (the longest one lasting 1 1/2 hours).

I also had stabbing pains in the chest. And sometimes (for weeks at a time) I felt like there was a load of bricks on my chest.

I had to be off antibiotics for a couple of months due to various reasons, and when I restarted the IM bicillin, I ended up with tachycardia 10 days later that lasted for 3 1/2 hours. I was in the ER for part of this, and it was documented that my heart rate was going up and down, and up and down.

This was driving the ER doc nuts, and he could find no reason for my "irritable" heart. I told him that I had lyme disease, and I have a J-H reaction 10-12 days after starting an antibiotic. This was day 10, and it happened to be my heart that was having the J-H reaction!

My cardiologist agreed with that assessment.

It is wise to run all heart issues by your cardiologist. It is also important to know that lyme does bizarre things to you heart.

I have never been on biaxin. I did specifically ask my cardiologist if IM bicillin can cause tachycardia and the reply was "no." However, if one has lyme, the lyme can cause tachycardia.

Good luck....Timaca

biaxin can actually produce this. - you can read it on the adverse reactions blurb you receive from your pharmacy.

while on minocycline, i had the same symptomps on and off - and they went away after a few months.

the best advice - call your doctor - s/he should be able to offer some help.

hope you feel better soon!
