Hi,

I have been treated for a while now for borreliosis and I can't find my original handout form my doc on what meds work for the different co-infections.

he has just ordered one pill at a time until now. So far I have been on Doxy, Cef... something, zithromycin, and flagyl. I am now on clindamicin and quinyne.

Do any of these things actually kill lyme or just keep it from multiplying? I remember Doxy is for erlichiosis but can't remember which med is for the other co-infections. My doctor does not test for these so how do i know if i have them?

Does anyone have problems with numb and burning spine with difficulty walking soemtimes?

One more questions

does quinyne cause bleeps in the heart. It makes me feel like it is skipping around. Is this just a herx? I know, see the doctor. I have an appt next week but just wanted to see if this happened on this medication with anyone else.

Here are the Lyme Disease Treatment Guidelines (link below) that will hopefully answer your questions!!!

The Clindamycin/Quinine is for Babesiosis
Doxycycline works for Lyme and Ehrlichiosis

You are asking what meds kill Lyme?
This is the general difference between bacteriostatic and bactericidal antibiotics.
here is a site that explains it a bit.
No personal experience with quinine, but I would let your doctor know you are experiencing this. bactericidal vs.bacteriostatic

You can look up each medication HERE to see the information about it. Rx LIST

Another study...

Keep reading about Lyme, co-infections and arm yourself with information! Ask questions, and keep your chin up! We are here to help you! [Smile]

Hi, Snowflake-
Yes, you need to be sure you are seeing a doc who really knows about tick diseases. In the US such docs are are hard to find. In other countries (who should be trying to lead the u.s. AWAY from fanatic pseudo-religious materialism, but too often are in danger of becoming infected by such themselves), they are, lamentably, even harder to find.

Look up Dr. Zhang's web pages. He is a chinese doctor who treats with traditional chinese medicine; there are many good ideas for supplemental treatment there.

Without that info I would probably still be sick. In fact, if some joker had tried to make people pay for that info, I would still be sick, since our civilization is sick, and thus the info would have been completely unavailable to starving artist- types... But luckily for me, occasionally people with compassion come through....

If you can somehow manage it, you probably will need to have a course of fairly strong antibiotics; not just a little "doxy" here and there!. Have you looked for a lyme support group in your area? They might be a good source for info and possible links to lyme-savvy doctors.

Good luck. You are welcome to try e-mailing me, with a "private message", if my address is not available through lymenet (I can't post my e-mail too much publicly or it quickly becomes useless), but also, this is a good "board" and many people here will have good thoughts.

I hope you get optimal treatment soon!

Hey, Snowflake

I'm on Ceftin for my Lyme then, in Dec., my LLMD dx me with Bartonella.

I started Rifampin for that Bart, in addition to the Ceftin. I'm already seeing an improvement in my symptoms.

Hope this helps!

Andie
