Hello Everyone, Hope everyone is doing ok. I wanted to make you aware of the NCLDF's visit today with Franklin Freeman (Senior assistant to the Governor )and Dr. e. (state infectious disease doc) .The NCLDF was not made aware of the fact that Dr. E. would be at the meeting , nonetheless we covered our original agenda. The meeting occurred on April 6, 2006 at 10:30 AM.
Fonda spoke some about the predicament most lyme patients in this state find themselves in when searching for a doctor. She also covered her personal experience which echoed many lyme voices in our community.
I specifically ask that the month of May be made Lyme Disease Awareness month. Dr. E. would not support this request and suggested that it be Tick Borne Disease Awareness month. We conceded this point and this request will go to the Governor. This effort if passed will hopefully arouse more questions in the minds of local physicians and help them consider lyme borreliosis as a differential when seeing a patient.
We also asked that the Governor speak with Dr. E. about his conduct at the November 2005 society of infectious disease meeting which is a meeting that many of the infectious disease doctors around the state attend. I have attached Dr. J.' letter to Dr. E. in regards to his presentation at that meeting. Take time to read the letter and you will find that according to the letter Dr. E. significantly trivialized the extent of lyme in this state.
Finally, we encouraged Governor E. to speak with the medical board and encourage them to drop their charges against Dr. J. because his loss would injure so many in NC.
What we need you to do for us:
Write a one page letter (only 1 page please!!) and fax to Governor's office . Numbers for faxing: 919-715-3175 or 919-733-2120.
Thank Governor Easley for having Mr. Freeman meet with us. Tell Governor Easley you have chronic lyme and that your journey has been difficult. Tell him you want May to be Tick-Borne Disease Awareness month in NC. Let him know that you want the NC dept of Health to step up to the plate and for them to start a physician awareness campaign for tick borne disease in NC. And finally ask him to to speak with the medical board and ask them to drop their charges against Dr. J..
People, we need to tie up their fax lines big time. Fonda and I really need your help with this. The Governor's office needs to know that we are tired of being ignored in this state.
Thank- you for any and all help you can provide with this endeavor.
