My LLMD uses it. It's not high on his list, but It think it helped me. I also have IC. Seems like he paired it with something else, but I couldn't find it in my notes.

In vitro Bactrim doesn't work against Bb at all.
Perhaps it is useful as an enhancer of other drugs or is effective against cysts. Who knows...

I am taking Bactrim but I think it is specifically for my Bartonella.

He just put Billy on Bactrim along with his zithromax. Says he is seeing it help with Babs. Coming next Friday?

I have lyme, bartonella and babesiosis. Bactrim was the first antibiotic to really help and I have used it on and off for the last 2 1/2 years. Seems to help more than almost anything else.
Could be attacking something besides the lyme, but it is very stablizing for me.

Are most of you on the DS or regular Bactrim? Does it make a difference?

I think I took the DS. More the better, I would imagine. The others are probably right, it helps coinfections rather than Lyme perhaps. And since most of us have coinfections, there you are!

I was on Septra (bactrim) for 4 months, three of which were the best months I've had in many many many years. It was hard on me in terms of yeast---but other than that it was a pure miracle. However, it is not considered to be particularly active against bb or the coinfections. Some think it has some activity v. Bart, which I do have and that was the reason my CAli LLMD #2 put me on it to begin with.
However, My cali LLMD #3 says if you had such a positive response to Septra we have to suspect that something other than bb, babs or bart is at play because septra just isn't that strong against any of those bugs.

My experience with DS bactrim and minocin was a neuro and bone herx, clearly. So, if it isn't hitting lyme, why would I have a herx? If herxes are confined to spirochetal diseases. This was not an allergic reaction, a side effect, or a disease flare. It was a herx. Can't say there has been any miraculous improvement, though, after 4 months of this combo. Tired of trying to figure this stuff out!
