Hi,

Today I embarked on my Biaxin/Plaquenil regime! My doses are as follows.

Biaxin/Clarithromycin (Generic) 500 mg's
Plaquenil/Hydroxychloroquine (Generic) 200 Mg's

Take one of each, at breakfast and dinner time.

Did this combo make you better, recover more quickly? Did it make you herx after herxing from other abx?

After 6 months of Tetra, and some good days under my belt, and with the warm weather and sunshine upon us, and the news of this combo treating co-infects, I thought it was a good time to begin.

I have not suffered any stomach probs from the Tetracycline....I ate good meals, lots of yogurt too. I am wondering if I need the pro-biotics where I was fine with the Tetra???

My Barrium Swollow test showed no damage to stomach, etc.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Good evening Rob,

I was on that protocol for a very long time. It did seem to help somewhat with the lyme load...but wasn't quite enough for me.

One thing you will find with Biaxin is an awful metal taste for a bit until you can get use to it. I also had a few odd occurrences with smelling things that weren't actually there. Both of these side effects disappeared with time.

Yes, you will need to continue on a good regimen of pro-biotics and try to stick to a Candida control diet.

My best,
melanie

hey rob,

biaxin and plaqu was by far the most effective combo for me. took it about for a year. no major sideeffects, no bad herxes. just noticed that i was more hungry than ever and that my teeth became yellow, which was no problem for my dentist to change afterwards. metallic taste - yes, but so what?

good luck,
alexander

I took that last summer and felt much better on it. I actually had hope for a much better tomorrow and then cam Dec and tetracycline.

For 3 months I was just a blob that could not think or do. I stopped a months befor seeing the doc could I just could take it any more.

Had 3 good weeks and then crashed the last week. Doc said he felt the 3 months on tetra was a continual herx.

I started the biaxan & plaquenil today and am hoping for at least another summer like last year. It will be wonderful to be able to go to the librany and indulge in novels again.

I got my fingers crossed

Rob,

I also had great results on Biaxin/Plaquenil - same protocol you listed. After taking this combo for a year and a half, I had 3 months with no symptoms and got back to being a fully functioning human! [woohoo]

And then, taking a leap of faith, we stopped the meds. I went about nine months until symptoms starting creeping back, just recently. But those nine months were glorious - climbing mountains, participating in all sports and thinking clearly - yahoo!

I will be returning to meds shortly and would consider this combo again as it brought me back to the living - I might considering adding in one more med to the mix for myself in hopes of finding a long lasting cure.

Believe in it. I ate yogurt and took the probiotics faithfully as well. I never had any problems tolerating Biaxin/Plaquenil other than the initial metalic taste.

all my best,
Susan

Hey Rob,

My doc has me rotating biaxin/plaq and clindamycin/quinine. I have good success with this also and have been on it for almost 4 months.

I still herx on it, lots of emotional stuff but well worth it. The hot/cold flashes are gone while I'm on meds and the heart issues have almost disappeared.

I'm loving it! [Big Grin]

That combination was a disaster for me.

Be careful with the Plaquenil if you are co-infected with something not treated by the Biaxin (i.e. mycoplasma fermentans) it could get much worse.

The only success I am having with this combo now is it is killing me!

I am having total body pain, arthritis and more, muscle pain, fatigue, tingling, heavy legs.

OUCH!
