Hi everyone...I don't post much lately..I have been LD-free since the end of last September..a long road to recovery, but hopefully it's all behind me..I have a question, though and I know this is the best place for advice/opinions..
I went to my friends house for Easter yesterday..she lives right up the street from me..she is very upset..she found an attached/engorged tick on the side of her stomach..she knows it was a deer tick..she removed it intact and threw it away..

is it good to go on an abx as a preventive measure? If the answer is yes, is there a particular abx and dosage?
she keeps checking for a rash, but I told her she may not get a rash or it could appear on an area away from the bite..

thanks for any help..a lot of people come to me like I am the LD expert, but i am not..just someone who endured it all....

thanks Cathy

Hi cathy,

Glad you're lyme free...wish I was.

Too bad the lady did'nt keep the tick and send it to the CDC...it could have been tested for disease and she might have avoided any worry.

The bullseye is supposed to denote the infection and you are right...she may not get one.

Knowing what I know now I would advise her to get on doxy or ammox or both as a preventative measure. You'll have a hard time getting it unless you have a llmd. Especially if no symptoms are present.
Some folks are even asymptomatic for years prior to becomeing ill....

Good luck........zman

Hi Cathy!! [Smile] WElcome back!!

I would take a minimum of 4 wks, preferably 6 wks of 400mg doxy. [Be sure to tell her to take acidophilus!!!]

I think she will have ALOT of trouble finding a dr who will prescribe that much, however. She may have to see two drs or something!

Also, about that testing....I got bit again last yr and sent the tick to Igenex. [I got abx the same day I got bit and began taking them.]

Nine days later I came down with a "flu-like illness" and 3 wks after the bite, the test came back NEGATIVE for Lyme and babesia!!!!

The moral of the story is DON'T TRUST THE TICK TESTING EITHER!!!

I had many problems following that tick bite and there's no doubt in my mind that I received a 'little present' from that tick!

Tell your friend to come here and read Treepatrol's links. It's on the first page here, about 8 items down.

Take care!!

Not all ticks are infected. Kinda depends on where you live as to what germs and how many ticks infected. I'm sure you know ticks can transmit a number of diseases.

However, if this is an endemic state and an engorged tick, I would sure be looking for treatment. Caught at the early stage is the best hope of cure.

Yes,

Try to get some meds, just to protect herself. Maybe she is not infected, but...............

I had 6 wks of doxy, 6-7 weeks after crushing fatigue hit me...

It was too late...19 months later, I am still ill.....Have some good days...

I agree with the others that a preventive round of doxy is in order, but if she can't get that, refer to the Stephen Buhner "Healing Lyme" book.

Odds are with a healthy immune system, the herbs can prevent the lyme infection from taking hold.

Herbs may not be as powerful as abx, but they are very strong and effective and were the antibiotics before antibiotics were invented.
