I just was diagnoised with lyme after 15 years of being told I had fibro~ I have had the numbness and burning not to mention just about everyother symptom on the list. I started on biaxin for a month 1000mg a day then went to doxycycline 200mg a day. I had some night sweats and my muscle pain got better for a week but, everything is back. I have a new lyme doctor that is wonderful, but just learning. should I be pressing the IV treatment. Does anyone know if Insurance company's will deny the IV if you have been on oral abx for a while. I am concerned that I am not getting aggresive enough treatment and that I may be denied by my insurance soon. Thanks everyone for your help.

Don't push for IV, many people do very well on orals. You dosages seem on the low end but still may be adequate. Your doctor sounds like an LLMD but if you have any concerns get a 2nd opinion from another LLMD. Some LLMD's are more conservative than others.

I agree. You can get well on orals. I've had Lyme for about 47 yrs [was dxd with FM 25 yrs ago] and only treated for the past 6 yrs. [actually took abx for 4 yrs]

I'm doing great and no longer on abx. I never had IV.

I don't know about your ins company. Each one is different. ONe reason I didn't want IV was that I was afraid it would be a red flag and they would then deny paying for ANY treatment.

There's a GREAT LLMD in MO.

200mg of doxy will do NOTHING for your Lyme....in my opinion.

It has been ny experience that until co-infections are addressed, espesially the ones IV rocephin doesn't help, improvement was nil on rocephin.

My first round of co-infection testing was negative. I was seeing an IV gung ho doctor and had IV before long term orals because I had been sick over a year.

I changed doctors after 3 months of IV.

My current llmd re-testd me at my first visit and I had bart, so I went on tetra. It took 10 months to see results. Last year he re-tested for cos adding the test for mycoplasma and Rocky mountain spotted fever. I was positive for both. Hopefully the tetra got them both.

I tested negitive for babs, but was treated for it and herxed mildly on mepron.

My insurance nenver said a thing about 2.5 years of oral abx.

IV or not to IV. I have erhlichia, babs, myco, bart and lyme. I was on 10 months of oral ABX in various combinations and did get some good progress. But I kept having major relapses that were very bad. Big time nuero symptoms. I did IV rocephine which really took the nuero down and then wnet to IV zith. I am starting to get real progress. But if I had started IVs right away I think it would have been way too much for me to handle all the big die off. See what happens over the next 6 months on orals.
