I've had this as long as I've had lyme. At first, I thought it was related to sleep-apnea, but now I'm not sure.

Ok, here it is. I CANNOT relax my tongue!! [Eek!]

I don't notice it as much during the day, but at night when I'm trying to go to sleep, I feel that my tongue is "tense" and it raises to the top of my palette and sort of locks there.

Of course, this means my throat gets really dry from trying to get the air in. [Roll Eyes]

I physically try to get it to relax on the bottom of my mouth and seconds/minutes go by and BAM!, it's right back tense again on the roof of my mouth. And the dry mouth and throat get worse.

I tried to do a search but didn't find anything related. Am I just an odd duck? It's very troublesome and I swear it has something to do with either my tongue muscle, my mouth or my brain. [loco]

Anyone???? [confused]

I would like to know the answer to this too. My tongue always feels like it is swollen, and is choking me. I dont think it's actually swollen, tho. Maybe numb? Do you have this problem as well as the tensing? I'm really interested to hear the reponses to your question.

Hmmm, do you breathe through your nose while this is happening?

What I experienced was, when I would walk very fast to get somewhere, or when I would stand up, half my face would go numb.

Literally, as if someone drew a line from my forehead to my chin, right down the middle of my nose, and decided that the left side of that line was to go numb.

I could tell it was coming on as I would experience a hot tingling for just a moment. Then, instantly, the numbness which including half my tonque. My jaw would also clamp shut.

I couldn't open my mouth to speak to tell anyone what was happening.

It would take a minute or two to pass. But it felt like an hour! This happened during my first break from antibiotics.

My primary care doctor, who was Lyme friendly but not an LLMD, felt it was unrelated to the Lyme as the Lyme "had been treated way beyond what it should have needed" and he had me go get a mouth splint to where at night and get TMJ physical therapy.

Did it help? No. After a few months I eventually was allowed to go back on antibiotics due to return of my typical Lyme stuff. Then realized that the jaw clamping/tongue numb stuff had stopped.

I had that symptom and it was from lyme. My treatment has helped and I haven't had it for months. Thank goodness because it was creepy!
Of course I thought I had ALS.
