I have been taking Biaxin for a short time and I had the weirdest herx ever last night, but I am wondering if it might have been a TIA?

About 4 hrs after my last biaxin I began experiencing a tingling sensation in my face. Then I had a few arm jerks (have had myoclonus like seizures before from Lyme so this was nothing new.) I decided it was time to go to bed so I started to walk and I was walking funny, like one side of my body didn't want to follow my brain's commands.

I tried to get into bed and my body became frozen stiff. It was like the harder I tried to move my arm the more frozen it became. REALLY weird!

Then my jaw was dropped and it was like it and my tongue were stuck and I couldn't move them. My spouse pushed me to be before I fell over and then I started to get visual hallucinations. My arm was still frozen in a weird position and my face was in this ugly contorted expression. Then my body arched like in a seizure and I was not able to breathe briefly and my body was very stiff. Then that released and I tried to talk to spouse but all I could do was mumble. I obviously knew it sounded like just a moaning and I kept trying but words wouldn't come out of my mouth. I could think the words and my thinking was clear but the words would not come out right. My tongue, face, etc continued to be tingling and I felt a weird feeling in my head. All I could say was long expressions like "ahhhhhhhhh, ahhhhhhh, yahhhhhhhhh, etc." This lasted about 5 minutes while my spouse was freaking out saying, "Should I call the ambulance, can you hear me," etc.

Then the tingling went away, I had some myoclonus like jerks and then my breathing was weird. Then I started to make a little more sense with the words and then spouse could finally understand what I was trying to say.

Oh, and I had a really weird taste in my mouth afterwards like I was chewing on aluminum foil.

Does this sound like a herx or TIA or a seizure? Does the Biaxin create a release of metals in your body?

WHAT the heck??? [dizzy]

Hi

It does sound a bit like a seizure - can you fax your LLMD to ask advice? Usually when you start a new med four days in is when you get the herx - was it 4 days in you got this?

I can say that the metallic taste from Biaxin is a common side effect, I get that too, it's unpleasant but to be expected.

Myoclonus gets worse with magnesium deficiency so maybe that is an issue also.

Hope you can get some answers, good luck
Emma

That sounds like it might be a TIA , but Im no doctor.

I DEFINATELY would call him though! Biaxin I BELIEVE can actually CAUSE TIA's, You can look up a full leaflet on the internet on it.

Hi,

Could this in any way be a sign of a stroke?

Wow, how scary is that! [Roll Eyes]

I'm on Biaxin now and hope I never get anything like that. I'm sorry you had to experience that. I hope you find out what it might have been. Don't walk, run to the phone and call your doctor pronto! Hope you get better soon.

Its nice to talk to other members and receive support from the board. [group hug]
