I live in CA not MA but based on my experience(s) the utility co.'s may or may not give you a discount, it is based on income and the discount isn't substantial. The first step is to call them and ask them to mail you a form to apply.
No chance of food stamps, that is a federal program and I believe you must be on federal disability or be extremely poor.
Highly doubtful any insurance company would help with your loans unless you already have a policy in place. Your best bet would be to talk to the loan manager, explain your situation and negotiate a lower minimum payment until you return to work. They should be receptive to that.
Like the other person said, find out how long your company will hold your job for you (usually 3 or 6 months, I forget now) before they can fill your position.
Unfortunately there isn't much assitance available to the short term disabled person. If your monthly expenses are higher than your income you could use credit cards or borrow from a family member or friend. If you have savings you can make up any differences there as well.
Eliminate any uneccessary expenses etc. and you can even create a budget. It seems your best option should you go out would be to get the monthly payments of your loan down to a level where you can make ends meet until you return to work. Good luck,

I would work Mon-Tues, Weds off, work Thur Fri......
I am blessed with working for the best company in the USA, extremely liberal, generous, caring, supportive, I am also in a union....
My Director is willing to do whatever it takes so I can work safely and without physical torture.....
Its just nice to know my options.........
