Hello everyone i jus wanted to state my story in a nut shell i have been feeling miserable for the past 2 years had every test under the sun finally came across an igenex test that had me positive for 3 bands on the western blot. Have been seeing Dr S in NJ, seems knowledgeable. I have been on at least 6 different orals and have had very little positive results, now my dr has me on penicillin injections, once a week 1.2million units of bicillin. I got my first shot on monday and felt miserable tuesday i dont know wheather im relapsing from discontinuing the orals or is this a severe herx from the bicillin. I havent felt this tired and just drained mentally and physcially in months. I cannont get out of bed for the past 4 days. its hard to think this is a herx when negativity is making me believe its a relapse. Anyways my ? was, is it possible to get a herx this bad that lasts as long as a week? Im not really having crazy symptoms just beyond belief tired and sleepy please give any insight id appreciate it thanxx!

I'm not much of a herxer, but I will say that I'm going back and forth between great stamina on Bicillin to moderate fatigue, so I wouldn't rule out the fatigue as a Bicillin herx or effect.

I get injections twice a week. This is a powerful antibiotic and I was warned that many people herx significantly on it.

Have you contacted your Lyme doctor just so he is aware of this reaction?

I have been on Bicillan shots for a while now through Dr. B. I feel they can really stir up some action and kill the bacteria along with giving some real Herxs. I take them 3 times a week now since that can be equivalent to IV strength. I started out at one a week and after 2-3 weeks I had some strong herxs. I worked up to 2 a week and had more. They are very powerful! I have been on Mepron and Zithromax with it for the Babesia. It does help.

cantpredictme ~ (I like your name. [Smile] )

My herx on bicillin was primarily headache, fever and extreme tiredness. It would start the day of my shot and peak in a day or so and then get much less by the end of the week.

For me, it was a fairly tolerable herx, I have trouble sleeping and was able to sleep anytime, all the time.

I was started on a small dosage and worked up to 1.2mil IU/week.

The good news is the herxes got milder as I continued the bicillin.

I was taking it with an oral after being treated with IV Rocephin and orals. I though I had my greatest improvement while on the bicillin. I hope it turns out that way for you, as well.

I have no medical anything only know how it was for me and don't always trust my memory, as that can't be predicted, lately. [Wink]

If it seems like too much to handle perhaps the LLMD would allow you to start with half doses. It's worth asking, what the heck.

Oh, I meant to say this sounds like a big old bicillin herx to me. I'm sorry I hope you feeel better soon and in the meantime rest as much as you can.
Hang in there!

Use the search function at the top of the page and enter Bicillin. There are a alot of people who say it helped them more than anything else. I'd say that, almost definitely, you are herxing.

Welcome to the board!

The herxing on Bicillin can be very hard in the beginning. Its probably good you are starting slow with one shot per week. You will probably be very tired and need as much rest as posible when you start treatment like this. Be patient okay, its rough in the beginning but it is good you are getting started. In time you will likely increase to 2-3 shots per week and add in other meds too. if it makes you feel better, some herxes can last a week, a month, a year....a high germ load can make you herx constantly if you have been untreated for a long time. i herxed for a year when I first started, then it came and went, up and down. Everybody is different so try to stay strong and know you are going in the right direction. Read as much info as you can on Lyme, it will help you on your journey to recovery.

Welcome to the board. I'm not on this, so can't offer anything.

Go to TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS, at top of medical. Print it off...lots ofgood links there, and he updates regularly; months of reading.

Print off Dr. B's 05 lyme treatment guidelines 33-40 pages; will tell you a lot there too about IV.

Best wishes to you; glad you found us.

I think I herxed for as much as a month straight when I was on Bicillin and Ketek.

I like organic apple cider vinegar and honey mixed w/water to taste for detox. Hot baths w/epsom salts are also good for detox.

Hi,

I'm posting again. In my last post, I was tolerating Bicillin well, fluctuating between great stamina and moderate fatigue.

Well, now something has hit hard. I don't know if I'm finally herxing or whether it's big-time candida (which had been under control on just oral antibiotics). But Bicillin certainly stirred something up - it's unpleasant but tolerable so far.

Jill

Hello canpredictme

I happened to be on lymenet today answering a private email..I saw your post..I also used Dr. S...I agree that he is very knowledgeable..Also, my treatment sounds similar to yours..I was on oral abx for 4 months and I really didn't see any improvement..then I started bicillin injections and I slowly started to see improvement..I was out of work for a year..It was a tough road..I think it took about 4 months of weekly injections before I really felt like I was winning the battle..overall, i had injections for 12 months along with probenecid..I am thankfully feeling 100% now...if you need any more info just let me know..hang in there..it takes awhile and it is tough..

It depends how long you have been sick!
I herxed for a year because I was sick for 10 years before I got treated! Everybody is different. the point is, you need treatment and you will have to do this regardless. Dont let the fear of herxing stop you, its all part of it. [Smile]
