Hi,
I've finally been tested, I only showed one ++band, and two iffy ones. But have most the symptoms, was diagnosed with CFIDS originally.

Q- LLMD dr. prescribed Cefuroxime to try for a month to see what happens, but the dosage is 2000 mgs, that's 4 big blue pills aday.
It just seems like sooo much too me.

Can anyone help me out here before i start this?

I little scared here.

Also, dose anyone know firecop?? Is she around?

Thank you

Hey- that's EXACTLY what was prescirbed for me. Pharmacist said he had never heard of a dosage so high and was reluctant to fill the script. Insurance declined payment, but then LLMD was reached and she assured everyone it was the correct medecine for me and the correct dosage-and I have been taking it for a couple of weeks with no noticeable effects-except that I feel s if my symptoms for lyme are more intense-but that may be a herx reaction-I don't know-but as far as a reaction to the medication- no problem for me so far.BTW Insurance agreed to pay for script after talking to doctor-knocked a potential $900 bill down to $5 !!!!! Yippee .

It does not matter what the lab tests show, Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis. thats apretty normal dose for Ceftin, it can be higher, i took 3,000 mg day along with Biaxin 2,000 mg and Flagyl plus Bicillin, so you are starting slow and low but thats okay! We're all different. More treatment will probably be added in time if your doctor knows what they are doing.

Welcome morning.... to the board.

Firecop, haven't seen her post anything for quite awhile!

Also, go to TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS at the top of medical. Print off his links sheet, and he updates regularly.

Print off Dr. B's 05 lyme treatment guidelines; 33-40 pages. Glad you found us.

CarolB,
Well, I guess it must be right then, thanks for answering. My copay was $10, guess i lucked out.
How long have you been taking this, and did you start out with the whole dose?

Thanks, Wildcondor, my Dr. is planning to add another one. He is only treating me with antiobiotics, i was hoping for a more rounded treatment. I've been wondering about the blood thicking thing, i thought we needed heripin to thin blood?
Bettg,
thanks for your imput. I was hoping to find Firecop here, and find out how she's doing.

Actually I started out taking one 500 mg twice a day, then after 3 days upped it to two 500 mg twice a day -equaling 2000mg per day.Still in my first month-Started April 14th-next appointment is May 17th. I am so relieved that I can tolerate it because I am allergic to many of the antibiotics.

Mostly vitamins and supplements-Calcium with D,Multi vitamin,Ester-c, Probiotic, SAMe, Acetyl-L,Magnesium and Melatonin, plus meds prescribed by other docs for conditions related to Lyme-like Keppra for seizures, and Elmiron for Interstitial Cystitis, Synthroid for hypothyroidism, and Atenolol for SVT.
Monthly bloodwork, and appointments to monitor progress and tweak meds-for 11 months if all goes well.
It was a bit overwhelming at first, but this site has given me a better perspective.

I have been on as much as 6000mg combined abx also it depends on your size, high doses for treating lyme is common.
