I have neuro lyme. Treatment so far has been 3 months of tetra which did nothing but allow me better sleep and now I'm in my 3rd month of Biaxin/Plaq which has helped. I have more good days then I used to and many of my symptoms have subsided...except of course the big ones. I continue to get headaches and neck/jaw pain almost every other day, some mood issues and the fatigue comes and goes (mostly comes!). This all makes some days difficult to fully concentrate. I'm pretty sure I need to be treated for Bartonella and my doc is willing but the dilema is that I'm getting married in 1.5 months and scared to try one of the bart meds (i.e. levaquin, rifampin, etc) so close to the big day for fear of having bad reactions. Also, I've just started a new job and need to be as coherent as possible. Should I wait until I after my wedding or should I start now? Should I give Biaxin/plaq more time?? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Nicolette

Nicolette,
You sound exactly like me. I am actually getting married in 11 days and did not start taking the Levaquin that my doc prescribed about a month ago because I suspect it will have a bad impact on my muscles.

I basically just kept taking my Omnicef and figured I would do the Levaquin after the wedding. However, I am also trying to get pregnant and I can stay on the Omnicef during the pregnancy, but not the Levaquin.

I guess you could try the drugs and see how you feel and then stop if the reaction is too bad. I mean, not the best advice, but I figured that I have had Lyme for 15+ years so what is one more month going to hurt.

I do have Bart, too, supposedly. Probably need to treat it naturally somehow...

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! I hope you have a supporting fiance like I do. [Smile]

Slow and steady wins this race. No reason to rush into meds. They will be there after the wedding day.

I have stayed on meds b/c I was stabilized to an extent, so that I could travel, or work, or move or whatever. 2 months wont break your ability to heal as long as you stay on some sort of abx or herbs.

I'd stick with what you got and get a nice long LLMD appointment after the honey moon so you can change meds and start down a whole new path of healing.

Congrats!

Going to break this up.

I have NO medical training and this is just a fellow lymies opinion.

If the biaxin/plaquenil is helping your remaining symptoms I would stay on that till after the wedding. No need to ruin your big day.

If you want to switch meds I would do it after the wedding. Especially if you tend to herx big in the begging of new abx.

- Just what I would do if I were in your shoes

Best wishes

Thanks for all the responses. Good advice. What about just adding a cephlasporin to my Biaxin/plaq as I've read they can be a good addition to abx for neuro lyme?

As a Lyme Disease patient and the grandmother of a little boy who has congenital Lyme, I urge you to try to not get pregnant until you have been treated for a very long time. I well remember how exciting it is to be getting married and having a baby. However, having a handicapped baby due to Lyme Disease is not worth it! Treat the Lyme first!
