In the calves(calfs)(?), of both legs. At first they were mild during the day, but now they are intense and wake me up at night with residual pain in the morning.

Called LLMD. Was told to double magnesium,(to 100mg daily) increase fluid intake-I already feel like I am drink drink drinking water all day, and eat a banana a day for potassium.

But what do you do in the middle of the night?

yep, I get em too. Never have found a THING that helps. I have upped the mag, the water, the potassium, done stretching, baths, epsom salts, massage, and vitamin E. They just seem to come and go with the disease for me.

Mine can be soooooo painful. YOurs too? I cant even walk the next day hardly at all....limp around a lot.

I think the mag is important, it just doesnt take em away from me when they want to cramp up like that, they do no matter WHAT.

First time I have felt crippled by Lyme.

You reminded me- I am supposed to do mild stretching exercises, too. Thanks

I did write all this down somewhere!

It's the night time thing that bothers me most, I can hardly sleep as it is, and to be vulnerable to the leg cramps is insideous.

Thanks,
Carol

You just reminded me that I had calf cramps pretty often numerous times before I was diagnosed.

Magnesium and potassium are the usual recommendations. Stretching really does help. Try it before you go to bed.

Using some heat after stretching may also help relax your muscles. As would a hot bath. And making sure your bedroom isn't too cold.

Leg cramps are awful. One night in high school, I woke up with a calf cramp. I jumped out of bed and began walking it off when I realized my super athletic older brother was calling for our mom because he had a calf cramp too.

Beyond the oddness of us both having a calf cramp at the same time, I realized how high a pain tolerance I had. That's what living with undiagnosed Lyme will do to you...major pain tolerance.

To "shrink a link," go to
http://tinyurl.com/

Pull up the page whose link is too long.
Right click, and "copy" the link, then paste it into the space on "tinyurl.com"

Click, and the site will convert it.

You can edit your LymeNet entry, delete the long url, and copy and paste the shortened url instead.

How's that?

Having been a "caretaker" of others for so many years-this lyme disease is teaching me the most valuable lesson of all-taking care of myself !

I am proud of myself for calling the doc-for leg cramps, no less, not exactly life threatening-but if I can make this difficult journey a little more manageable-then I am willing to go to any length !

And to ask for help on this site and have so many buddies respond with their own true life experiences(unfortunately) is a goldmine!

Blessed in Balto,
Carol

Hi Carol,

This is what works for me. I found this info when I googled hypochlorhydria.(low stomach acid) When we have an infection in the G I track, it can deplete our hydrochloric acid.

HCL acts as a natural antibiotic when we are not depleted. I take HCL with meals and when I wake up with cramps, it signals me that I need more. It works well for me.

You might want to research this in relation to infection. It seems a lot of old time doctors payed a lot of attention to this.

Please consult your physician, I am not a doctor, and this is not meant to be medical advice.

I'm fighting a head cold 4-5 days now, opportunistic cramping? Blurry vision at times too, as if when sleepy and you rub your eyes to see better--only rubbing the eyes does not help as it normally would.

But for the 4 years of Lyme Disease my constant symptom has involved the neck, stiff neck, and malaria type sensation. Varies in intensity.

These muscle cramping in the legs have been getting worse past year. Like legs are turning to stone. They feel very sickly at night when sleeping. Neuropothy?

Thanks Gael for info.

LLMD did state in my phone consultation that she did not want to start anymore supplements at this time-but I was to let them know by this Wednesday if problem had not gotten any better and to have my monthly blood work done sooner than this Friday for her to analyze.

I plan to take notes from this thread on my next office visit.

Beating this in Balto,
Carol

If you have leg cramps that magnesium doesn't help, try adding some calcium to your regimen.
