Since Ocean and Monmouth County is really lacking any form of formal support group or location, I am considering hosting an informal support group once a month at my home. It is tough dealing with this illness alone, and many minds work much better together then alone.
Does this sound like a good idea? Would there be any interest of people in this area? Please respond to this post or via private message.

Best to hold meetings on a neutral ground, such as a church, temple, mosque, public building, rooms in a library, buildings housing civic organizatons(?), and so on.
your home is sacrosanct.
i'd recommend NOT holding a meeting in a room in a hospital, even if they offer it for free.
consider:
rent
privacy
handicapped access
free parking
hold meeting on a day of the week that is not covered by other support groups.
find out who the other support group leaders are and ask them about their experiences with presentations on different topics, such as a sales person, mlm, etc. with an agenda to sell products either at the meeting or o/w taking phone numbers from members.
depending on who the person is, if selling something, i'd charge them a nominal, or higher fee for some arbitrarily short period of time during which they can make their presentation. i suggest holding the timeline for the presentation FIRM, unless circumstances permit extension of timeline for the presentation. certain exceptions granted, depending on who,and what they are.
if a sales person or mlm person is to make a presentation, then consider the number of people; how many newbies present; issues and tissues shed at the meeting, etc.
for a person beside themselves in desperation, a sales rep. at a meeting is a big turn-off.
people with tape recorders vs. pen and paper for note-taking.
