Just wondering how in the world you differentiate brucella from lyme or figure out the combo, if exists??? Is there a thing called chronic brucella???

I have searched a while back but didnt seem to find MUCH. I was tested once. Tested mid range, non definitive., BUT I read somewhere the test HAS to be done immediately on the warm blood. My guess is it was cooled and stored and done when they had time or convience.

If one NEVER had brucella, why test mid range. Either all or none, right??? heard also you need a three med combo for extended time to kick it. Never had three meds at once, ever!!

I have NEVER herxed on lyme meds, never had one iota of ANY response to ANY abx. Suspicious??

Still think I got this from cuts on hands etc and birthing animal babies bare handed(okay, now I know, NOT smart) Every doc including LLMD poo-pooed the possible event as NEVER ever possible!!

If they never ever heard of it, who has??? Its just a gut feeling but VERY strong one at that!!. Maybe not the whole problem but enough of one, maybe a transfer of lyme too, I am confused because I am --just don--

Don, remember AJ? She found out she had brucella and got well after treatment. I thought she took Cipro and something else.

Have you ever taken Cipro? I wish I could contact her, but her email is no longer valid.

Just don,
What 3 drugs do they use for Brucella?
3 drugs doesn't mean they all are in big doses . It may not be so bad.

I was on 250mg Zithromax, 1 Suprax(can't remeber dosage) and a small shot of bicillin at one time and it was not bad. All small doses and I saw my best improvement with that. Even so i worked up to those doses.

Check into it, there's nothing to lose and perhaps something to gain. I'm curious what the meds would be.

I have found I respond much better to meds at the lower end of the dosage spectrum. I can continue and maintain them for longer. As opposed to taking too high a dose for a few weeks and having to stop because I'm too toxic to go on. Slow and steady works for me.

This is probably the thread Don was referring to -- Doxy, Zith and Rifampin for Brucellosis

Don,

Some more reading for you.

It is possible to get Brucella from unpastuerized milk, but unlikely if the cattle were vacinated for "bangs" as it is also called.

Much more common in foreign countries than in U.S. in recent years.

I do seem to remember that the English veterinarian James Herriot -- "All Cratures Great and Small" etc. series of books -- had this. I think he described attacks similar to malaria attacks and he did attribute infection to birthing calves and other vet work (especially on aborted fetuses -- the clinical presentation in animals).

This first article is from Cheryl's website and discusses deer and ticks and brucella in the state of Michigan.

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0%2C1607%2C7-153-10370_12220-26503-%2C00.html

Next,a journal article from PubMed describing different types of tests available.

http://www.pubmedcentral.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=156630

And finally a testing lab -- MDL (Medical Diagnostic Lab) -- have personally used this lab for various tests and believe them to be reputable.

http://www.mdlab.com/html/testing/available_tests_alphabet.html#tests_letter_b

Hope this helps.

AJ attributed her brucellosis to drinking unpastuerized milk in Europe.

Thanks for all the replies,
I drank unpasturized milk too every day of my life before I left home and then some probably till 1975 or so. Never thought a thing of it at the time, everybody did it!! Everybody that had a milk cow at home anyway.

25 years of drinking it by then!! Ever since out of a pasturized jug that I know of.

I think that is the right three some combo, doxy zithro and rifampin. Problem is I "CANT" take doxy.

I tried once in middle of winter and still got terrible sun burn of my life. Cant live in a cave that much and skin too light.

Is there a different drug that would take the place of doxy and do same thing???

Lymetoo-- gee I almost forgot about AJ after all this time. Have thought about her some before and always wondered how she was doing. Isnt she some relative of yours? Whens the last time she checked in with anybody?

Sure hope she is "A" okay and just moved on from being 100% well!! Would she still have same address?? Think I have it somewhere, let me know if you can, if its still valid. Her experience is what made me get tested for it in the first place.

Everybody involved with that test thought I was plum nuts cause 'nobody' EVER has THAT!!! Well, a test done incorrectly, and they NEVER will find anybody with THAT!!! Gee, where have I heard that story before???

I suppose I would have to travel to whereever the lab IS and almost stand there and watch them do test to be SURE of doing immediately, and whats the chances of them allowing THAT???

Hey Don!

Long time no talk!

When I read your post, you sparked me into reminding you of the resources I have here in MN!

It was working with the alternative stuff that identified Brucella in me, along with tularemia and doc did treat me for it....other than a few glitches here and there, I am doing pretty darn well!

Us farm kids need to take into consideration our background, way of life and all that we are exposed to!

My offer still stands!

Later Gator!
