Hello, I was on 60 mg of Armour Thyroid a day. I was experiencing symptoms of too much thyroid--racing heart, nervousness, etc.--so my doctor told me to stop taking it for five days and then start back at a half dose.
Because I couldn't get into to take the lab test right away, I took the test after I had been off the Armour for five days. I am worried that my lab result is not going to show me as hyper because of this and they are going to want to keep me on the 60 mg dose.
Does anyone know how quickly thyroid lab tests respond to changes in the medication dose? Would these days off be enough to corrupt the lab report? I just don't want to go back to that dose again.

I'd call a pharmacist about length of time it takes to become effective.
Boy, that is extremely high dosage. We've been on synthroid for 20-26 years. Hubby is HYPER with grave's disease; I'm under/hypo.
His meds were NEVER that high. Find out why yours are that high.
I just learned thru all my 4-20-06 lab testings, I have HASHIMOTO'S THYROID..upper/under! 1st time I'd been told this; always felt it was just UNDER active!

I am on 60 mg Armour also. That is not a high dosage in my non-medical opinion. The site below states that maintenance dose is 60 to 120 mg for adults.
