Hey everyone,

Im home now after quite an ordeal at the hospital :-(

Im greatest fear came true as i had to be catheterized while awake.

Im going to make this kinda short as im still so beyond sore and groggy from everything i was on.

I was prepped for the surgery, all the dr came in to see me..talk to me etc. The head surgeon..said she would test for lyme but could not send it out, against hospital policy and would have to go thru viview board etc.

A second dr on his fellowship came in and we hit it off pretty well, he knew all about lyme had how difficult it was to diagnose.

After surgery this dr was showing me my pics of my bladder and since we were on good terms i managed to get one off of him..(not something they like to do)...so i was happy..

UNTIL- i voided for the first time, no pain...bUT blood...lots of it. The attending nurse was in a frenzy calling all the dr. No one would get back to her...so there i sat freaked beyond belief. Hoping and praying.

They sent a duck- a guy with the bedside manner of a fish. He said to cath me with a foley 3 way cath and circulate this cocktail of drugs to irrigate the bladder and get the blood out.

Cathing was horrible...i screamed and cried...but once it was in, not so bad. I didnt have to worry about the pain so much and my bladder was pretty happy. I took percocets every 4 hours, ordered room service...and talked to the nurses. I didnt get much sleep because the stupid thing would pinch me now and then.

Yesterday morning Dr Fish comes in all cold, looks at the urine tank and says all golden very good! we will take the cath out then you will be on a 4 hour watch of you urine.

Let me tell ya the cath coming out.....hurt like heck...it scraped my very sensitive bladder right where it always hurts...the numbing gel worked though.

The Dr shuffle begain after that...Dr fish came in with the head surgeon...she was cold too(i was warned about her bedside manner)

They discused how drinking and voiding was important so i could get out of there (trying to kick me out i believe)..bleeding could happen and i was told that...and followup in a week...blah blah blah.

The first void wasnt too good..clots came out...i was freaked out and it hurt so much...like tearing pain in my urethra.

They send a resident up to talk to me and i just lost it cried and cried...because at this time i couldnt walk...my muscles were sore...couldnt feel myself pee...terrible. He said that i should get better and that the quickest i get out of the hospital and back to normal life i will be better.

Hospital enviromnent is not good for a young person who is healthy (gosh is this a duck or what)

After that, i got out of the bed and just sat in the chair looking out the window...and in walks my fav doc and sits down next to me. He says he feels that it is the Lyme that made me bleed so much.

Then finally someone explains why my muscles hurt so damn much...i was fighting them before the surgery...and it took a lot of anesthesia to put me out (dose of an adult male) they kept asking this doc if i used alchol or drugs..cause that is usually the reason this happens.

I dont remember any of this of course...but it was funny to hear...and explains a lot.

So, im home now, hurting, so stiff. I think they lyme is hitting hard. Im on cipro too which is knocking me out.

My bladder and urethra hurt too...the thing i hate is i wasnt in all this pain prior to the surgery. They say it takes atleast 5-6 weeks for things to start feeling better.

Im not out of the woods yet, but by this time next week hopefully i will feel a bit better.

Hey Yahoo-so good to hear from you. AH you bring back fond memories.

I was discharged with a catheter because my bladder shut down for a while-then the catheter started to fall out and it was a tad bit drvie me out of my mind painful.

I walked into the ER with pee bag hanging from my leg. Mercy of all mercies-they put me on the "Fast Track" and a tech came and pulled the cath out the rest of the way- then I had to stay in the hospital to insure I could pee on my own.

It was smooth sailing from then on- and as you know I am 100% better as of this writing. Hang in there. There is hope!

Hi Cant...so glad you are home. You have been through a horrible experience but it is behind you now.

I pray they have good results to tell you and the pain subsides quickly.

I know those catherizations are horrible. I hate how the nurses act like oh no big deal it will only be uncomfortable..I feel like asking...how about you lay here and let me do it to you. Just being a wise guy, nurses, know most of you do a wonderful job and are grateful for all the help I ever receive from all of you. Most of you are heaven sent.

Also It sounds like they totally knocked you out, thankful for that.

Drink, drink drink...knowing it hurts to pee is like a mind block but you need to do it.

Hope you feel much better each day and they get to the bottom of your problems.

With best wishes...

OH man! I'm so sorry you had to go through all that! The pain an IC patient has when being catheterized is WAY more than a normal patient going through it...WAY more!

UGH!!!....especially after having gone through the surgery where they mess with everything!!! [Mad]

Glad it's all over. Did you give your favorite dr your phone number?? [spinning smile]

Your pain may lessen considerably after a few more days, because the procedure can actually be therapeutic. It was for me the first time, BUT NOT THE SECOND.

Hope you feel much better very soon!!

SO sorry to hear about the MASSIVE pain and troubles you went thru!

But you are on the mend now, even though it is slow, you are going to get better and better each day.

Take it slowly, remember healing is different for everyone, and give yourself plenty of love and care,

Can't so sorry to hear about this upsetting news. It's amazing how hospitals can do so much good on one hand, and yet rob people of their dignity on another. Hang in there & keep the faith.

Cant

So sorry things are so bad.

And then to have to deal with moron drs on top of surgery and complications. AWFUL!

The whole ordeal sounds terribly painful... but you are strong enough to get through it.

Sending healing thoughts your way.

Best wishes [group hug]

hahaah lymetoo- No didnt give the doc my number...he mentioned during pre op he had a fiance :-/ Darn it!!

I thought i was being a wuss about the catheter...esp it coming out...it killed me and the nurse and fish said it wouldnt.

Oddly enough on my first day there i was feeling so beyond great....NO lyme symptoms and i mean nada...i think the abx they gave me thru IV helped me a lot on the lyme front.

All my muscles hurt in my stomach and lower back, my neck too....also places that hurt when i took the cipro last time and my LLMD said it was a herx...

I still fear the bathroom...its a bad feeling to have...but im walking around and refuse to be knocked down too much by all of this. Im fighting to get back that great day i had while in the hospital.

thanks for everyones support it means a lot to me :-)

Hey can't

sorry you had to go thru so much pain.

I hope they sent you home with some pain relief.

And hope you can get back that good feeling again.

p.s.If you think it was the IV cipro you got in the hospital could your LLMD give you a short course of it in the future?

Feel better soon [group hug]

It was Ancef....when they went to give it to me i freaked out(thinking oh now herx plus im alergic to zmax and wanted to make sure it wasnt part of that drug class) they were impressed that i knew it was a cephlasporin :-)

I dont know if it was that Ancef that helped but something did.

Im not in too much pain right now...lots of muscle pain but tolerable...they gave me vicodins...and only 4 days of cipro.

if it was the Ancef that is so damn good stuff :-)

They usually give stuff for pain through your IV during surgery. So maybe that was it.

The dr is engaged??? GAG me! [bonk] [lol]

Oooooh...I hurt just hearing you tell about it.
You have been through ENOUGH! Sure hope you are more comfortable soon and they gave you something for pain.

Hope I won't run into Dr. Fish or Dr. Shuffle [lol]

Come to think of it, I think I already have run into them. [dizzy]

Heal soon.
