The June issue of Readers Digest has some info. re: Omega 3s that maybe important IF someone has concurrent heart problems...angina, CHF, or evidence that their heart is not receiving enough blood flow when exercising.

Under normal circumstances the Omega 3s are very beneficial.

Just a "heads up". Page 184 if you want to read it while in line at the grocery checkout.

Marnie,

Does that mean that Omega3 are NOT useful if those conditions are present?

Thank you!

The end of the R. Digest article by Dean Ornish, MD says "My advice: Avoid omega-3s if you have recurrent angina, congestive heart failure or evidence that your heart isn't receiving enough blood flow when you exercise. If you have heart disease or have had a heart attack but don't have angina or congestive heart failure, omega-3s are beneficial. I take 3 grams of fish oilevery day." The article is regarding Alexander Leaf, MD's work at Harvard which found in some cases omega-3s can be fatal. They stop some of the most unstable cardiac cells from functioning, decreasing incidence of sudden cardiac death, but for those with hearts not receiving enough blood flow due to reduced ability to pump blood, angina & congestive heart failure, it may INcrease the risk of sudden cardiac death.
