Hi all,

Haven't been on for a little bit. Maybe I am just suffering from withdraw from the board discussions. [lol]

I finally received a decision on my second appeal case with BCBS. They have overturned my denial and will pay for my visits to Dr. L from 02/28/06 up to and including 03/28/06. Don't ask me why they won't pay for future visits and I.V. Therapy, but I think I know the answer to that one.

Anyway, I am satisfied that I will get a portion of my money back but I still think I will push the issue with an external grievance and yet another appeal to have future visits paid for.

They have agreed that their customer service did not divulge certain information to me as a member, so you would think by admitting this fact that the decision to overturn the appeal would include all current and future treatment (including I.V. if need be).

I know the standard is only 30 days but that should be applicable to the I.V. therapy.

At any rate, I am doing well on the Biaxin and the Minocycline; however, I wanted to ask if anyone has had an aching jaw?

My Muscle pains and menses cycle have been alot better this past month but I have this aching pain in either side of my jaw that is ever so slight but still there and annoying.

Just curious? I should be happy thats all I have because I know that most of you out there are pretty sick.

Could just be a continual dieoff but I wondered if it is a side effect of the contined Biaxin? [confused]

Hi Nukegirl,

I'm glad you have a little good news, sorry you have to keep fighting to get the IV, that stinks!

I don't know if an aching jaw pain is a side effect from Biaxin? I did have jaw pain for a long time. (before and after I was on abx)
hope you feel better soon.

After I posted this topic I went to lay down and my face started twitching wildy and kept drawing my mouth down (like in a frown expression-really bizarre) [confused]

I then experienced aching pain in my upper teeth, jaw and face and the muscles in my face and neck started to get tight like my face, jaw and throat were going to lock up. So bizarre!!! It wore off after I sat up for awhile. Frieked me out!

Severe jaw pain was my first Lyme symptom. It comes and goes now. I sometimes get tooth pain too and last year the muscles in my face were tight and I had twitching/fluttering in different areas like under my eyes, lip etc. Some were a one time occurence, others lasted a few days or a week.

I was on Biaxin when this occurred. It also happened on tetracycline. It was worse the first year of treatment. There were no residual effects.

You could be developing Bell's palsy.

Hubby had this show up 4 years into illness. Has been a problem for last year. The weird thing is that his is not permanent, but transient.

Several times daily his mouth might start drooping or teeth start chattering first or throat get tight and have difficulty swallowing. With him it usually progresses into G.I. spasms/dry heaves or sometimes that comes first.

And of course if there is pain involved it triggers seizure-like episodes. Massaging his face helps sometimes, but other times IV Ativan is the only thing that will relax his face so it goes almost back to normal.

Lately people have been asking him if he is feeling well as he is frowning more -- actually it is his face drooping on one side.

When this is really active he can't close one of his eyes.

No, I wouldn't call it TMJ-I never had this symptom before with my Lyme. I have been taking the Biaxin for about 2 months now and just added Minocycline about 2 weeks ago. This only occurs from time to time and doesn't stay.

I'm going to ask my LLMD what she thinks and if its anything to worry about. [Smile]

Oh my gosh... I have had the muscles in my face thing for years now... Drives me crazy!!! It gets especially bad in the cold! Does it make you feel like it's hard to talk? It's definitely in my face and jaw. I hope that this resolves for all of us!

Glad you had the energy to fight big blue and win!!!

Jaw pain, could be herx, could be stirring up lyme, could be sinus infection.

I had a painful jaw and teeth earlier this spring, the pain came and went and moved around, after a week or two I woke one day with an ear ache, mystery solved. I'm off abx so went back on to clear the infection.

Several times while on long term abx for lyme I got infections that required an abx change to kill those bugs.

It's just one more thing to deal with.

Thanks guys for the interesting insight. I hope its hitting them hard but its hard to tell. I guess you have to go by symptoms but how long does this thing last. Must go on for awhile if you've got alot to ZAP! We went to see a movie last night and my throat kept twitching! [Roll Eyes]
