Before I went on the antibiotics in Dec. 2005, my symptoms were severe burning and itching in the upper sternum/shoulder area, neck and knee. besides the inflammation of skin and burning in the feet, hand and eyes which started about a year ago.
But one week into the antibiotics my chest area started getting insanely heavy. And progressively since then I started itching burning all over. There was heaviness also into my head and swelling incl. pain. My eyes started burning, and my muscles esp. around the joints started getting weak and the nerves burning and itching. Also my lymph nodes felt swollen esp. in the hips and chest area and I felt liquid in my muscles. I also started shaking a lot and shuddering. My vision started getting hazy. I also developed wheezing. 8 wks into the antibiotics it got so severe that I stopped it thinking that if I continue I may get into some kind of toxic shock.
Since I stopped the drug, it took me a longtime to reach the state I am in, from not being able to get up I am now able to go for moderate walks and do some household chores. But still my nerves and constantly burning, shivering is severe and the ligaments esp. in the back shoulder and knees are very weak (almost as if it has lost the muscles). The heaviness in chest is still very severe that I am unable to hold my shoulders up and sit for extended periods of time. I still have the heaviness in the head incl. severe swelling (which I can even feel by touch) and the haziness in sight. A new MRI showed fluid in my sinus. Skin has lost its texture.
When I talked to LLMD he explained that what I am feeling is the effects of endotoxins being released by the bacteria while it is dying which my body is finding difficult to tolerate. He said under normal circumstances people are given steriods which antibiotics to cope with this problem, but in case of Lyme that is not possible as decreasing the immunity with steriods will give the bacteria ample opportunity to grow. But then I am not sure if the lyme toxins are so severe.
I was wondering if anyone felt these specific symptoms first time on antibiotics
Thanks Radha

My 5th day of Biaxin I was having trouble with my left arm it was moving on it's own, esp. my fingers. My whole left side got numb after that and felt weak. I went to the neuro and had a spinal tap. It showed nothing. It was tested for lyme too, negative...no bands. I also have the burning, twitching etc....

Radha,
Have you spoken to your doctor about these symptoms? Some of these symptoms sound like they could be an allergic reaction. If it's impacting your breathing, then it can get very dangerous very fast.
I would really consider trying an antibiotic in a different family and asking your doctor for a prescription for an EPI pen. An EPI pen is an injection of ephineprhen int he case of a severe allergic reaction in which you stop breathing.
