with food, away from it? how many capsules how many times a day?

I have freeze dried form in capsules.

This is for liver support while I am NOT taking mepron.

I am on strict med schedule coz I take CSM which binds to everything so I have to space everything out a few hours.

If it cant be taken with food, I dont think I can fit it in! [Frown]

I think the manufacturer recommends 250mg, 3 times a day (750mg total).

Because of "scheduling issues" similar to yours, I chose to take 1 with lunch and 2 with dinner. I have found that I do better with food in general. Too many supplements on an empty stomach was a bit hard...

Most importantly, take it at least 1 hour before or after your abx.

Trails:

You mention that you are taking milk thistle while not on Mepron. Have you been told not totake milk thistle while on Mepron?

I am currently on Mepron (among other things) and milk thistle (Jarrow Formulas Silymarin 80% 150mg two capsules bid).

crud.

THe only time I eat without taking ABX are lunch and dinner and those meals are sandwiched between CSM doses which I believe will bind to the milk thistle.

I forgot that the milk thisle and abx wouldnt combine nicely.

I dont think I can find a time to take the darn milk thistle.

Here is my schedule....if anyone has any suggestions pleeeeeze let me know:

8am--breakfast with zithromax,plaquenil and artemisinin

11am CSM
12pm lunch

4pm theralac

5pm CSM
6pm dinner
8pm zithromax, plaquenil, artemisinin with light snack

10pm CSM

ticked--YES! Milk thistle is contra indicated while taking mepron. It lowers the blood levels of mepron.

Many continue to take it but I wont waste my money.

Google mepron and milk thistle for papers. THere are many---it was well researched coz AIDS sufferers have tried to help their livers and they also take Mepron for PCP infections.

Also search here for mepron buddies....somewhere in that thread there are links to info on this.

Some day I will book mark the info===I am constantly posting about this.

I have found nothing that can be done to protect the liver while taking mepron. Everything interferes with this therapy.

I cant take mepron now coz it raises my liver enzymes quickly and I havent found anything that I can take with it to control this.

I take one 500mg capsule of Milk Thistle, that I encapsulate myself, with my meals. That is three times a day. I take it right along with my other herbs and vitamin C in the form of
C-Salts.

I would NOT take any abx without taking Milk Thistle, to be sure. The Milk Thistle is more important than the abx. Unless you don't care if you have a liver or not. I take Red Root also, which also helps the liver along with the rest of your Lymph system.

Ok Trails, here is an idea..I had a friend that had a messy schedule too..She could not find a time for Magnesium, which is very important..

So I suggested if nothing else worked, to put it in the bathroom and take it during a middle of the night trip there.. Good luck..lymemomtooo

Thanks again guys!

I have been slacking on the magnesium too --- I cant find TIME! This is a very common experience with folks on CSM. Thing is I DONT notice a darn difference without the magnesium. I mean FOR REALs. Really dont notice whether I am pushing it or not. I take mag tab suggested by Dr B. And in the winter I soak a LOT in epsom salts.

Good suggestion lymemomtoo! I sometimes already do this!! crazy schedule of meds...to wake up and take some in the middle of the night.

Question:
HEre is what happened yesterday---i took two milk thistles at lunch time apart from any abx or CSM. I felt VERY ill after lunch and had a LOT of URQ pain. More than usual. (I have gallstones that I am trying to disolve with actigall) And I just felt nauseas.

Later that evening I went #2 for my 3rd time in the day. I was cleaning out. It wasnt diareah...the CSM takes care of that, but it was a sort of cleaning out.

WOuld the milk thistle do this?

I used to drink this potent liver cleanse tea back 2001 when I was on IV and it would CLEAN ME OUT---you know---major bathroom time. So maybe the milk thistle is doing that too?

[confused]

I haven't noticed any difference in elimination. And I have an illeostomy so things are much more critical. You KNOW when you have had something that is like a laxative, etc..

Like chocolate. I used to like it, but now it makes me nauseas and gives me the diarrhea, big time.

SO I stay away from chocolate as much as I possibly can for the past twelve years.

Some herbs, like devil's claw, give me a lot of gas. But NOT pain, nor diarrhea or anything like that. So I stay away from that also, at least late at night before I go to bed.

I never noticed ANY effect with Milk Thistle. I just take it because it is supposed to be good for cleansing the liver. I also take Red Root which is also good for that, along with cleansing the whole lymph system which includes the liver.
