So many of us on here are on diets and such. I would like to know what you guys eat on a daily basis? How do you really, really feel while on a special diet (whatever it may be)?

Nancy.

I personally am going to adopt the "grass and water" diet. Seems like its the only thing my stomach will ever be able to tolerate again.

I feel best on protein and vegetables....vegetables that are low on the glycemic index. No starchy stuff.

I feel better not eating sugar too. My diet just got limited even more, and I'm wondering if maybe I have celiac disease. Sigh.

Anyway, I really believe diet is extremely important in getting well.

Hey Nal ,

'grass in water' diet probably would help me too.

im on the anti yeast and IC diet...which leaves me eating

poultry and brocolli most nites....on a good nite i have romaine lettuce.

i do eat puffed brown rice for breakfast with a drizzle of almond milk.

im too sick to crave the bad foods anymore....food has become a necessity and nothing more.

still waiting for a pill to be invented.

The best thing that goes down are soups when my stomach is acting up...And also

brocoli and chicken, Artichokes(crave these like no tommorow),beets, green beens, squash.

I don't have a dairy problem so cottage cheese, yogurt and some cheese's like provolone and moz.. and eggs.

In the carb realm: mashed sweet potatoes, corn chips and oatmeal(limited).

Nutz and any salad stuff I usually can't handle when my stomach gives out. That's pretty much it.
I know-really bland.

My stomach is slowing getting better so am adding to the food list.

Take care and hope you feel better soon

Whatever I want - but I try not to eat junk food and sugar - of course sometimes I do.

I can eat as much fat as I want if i am out or something - but normally I try to keep the fats under control - I have no gullbladder and it cant be good to bombard your body with something when the thing that processes it isn't there.

My gastroparesis is much better these days then it was a year ago - I can even eat salads now with lots of veggies although I still have to watch the raw peppers (I have to say that this is probaly one of my favorite meals)

Although nuts are still off limits - its a shame cause they are so good for ya.

I drink lots of water and hot tea. (mostly water) And I do drink all day. If I am out forgot my water bottle and go two hours without a sip of anyrhing I need to find a drink. for over ten years now I am always thirsty - cant be the meds - haven't been on them the whole time.

I hope you find a diet that meets all of your needs( stomach, yeast, nutrition issues ect.)

Best wishes

Hi--Lyme has ruined my immune system so I react to just about anything....but these are the worst: shellfish, processed salt (preservatives), annatto (yellow plant dye), and ammonia in dyes, pesticides (no wonder), and iodine in any form.

Here's what I eat to keep symptoms at bay as much as possible, and eat organic as much as you can.

Eggs, lots and lots of them (high protein, good energy)
Meats: only chicken and lean beef. Limited bacon (there is actually a brand I can eat-yeah!) Occasionally turkey, no pork; no seasonings (yet)
Veggies: lettuce, broccoli (limited), corn, peas, carrots, anything that doesn't contain iodine or was grown in iodine rich soil. Some potatoes I can eat, others I can't because of this.
Fruits: Bananas, cherries, citrus, but limit sweet fruits. Some grapefruits but can also be a problem and i can react to these
Sweets: none except rarely a dove chocolate, and cinnamon raisin bagels for some reason, but the sugar causes problems with my blood sugar
Drinks: Water, milk, orange juice or other fruit juices (limit these);
I eat no bread
organic peanut butter on occasion
and plain or buttered (unsalted) popcorn.
occasionally salt-free pasta, limited quantities.
That's about it. Yes its hard, very hard.
But it keeps the symptoms as low as possible.

I found also that cherry preserves or just cherries help the inflammation of the joints
I used to eat yogurt for my stomach but it caused more symptoms than it helped. Plain yogurt is better as is keifer and kvas if you are into that, I don't like it at all.

Its no "picnic" though

There was a time where I could eat only 5 foods total, then I was down to one, white potatoes. Everything else would give me anaphylaxis. I nearly starved to death and Mayo clinic said "we know this is happening, we don't know why or what to do about it". They sent me home refusing to test me for Lyme disease, despite my pleading I had lyme (by then) already for 11 years at that time. Luckily I was diagnosed finally 2 years after that, in 2005. Its been a rough road.

Lyme is hell

At home, my diet is primarily low fat, low carbs (complex carbs if I do eat them).

Poultry, eggs, shellfish. No red meat. A lot of vegetables, especially greens, like broccoli rabbe.

I love cheese and occasionally treat myself to slivers of goat milk gouda cheese. It agrees with me more than cows milk cheese.

I love eating out for some variety, and like charlie, I go to primarily Asian restaurants -- Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Chinese. I'm glad I live in a place that has a variety of choices here.

No alcohol or coffee (i do have a cup of black tea with splenda each morning).

I used to sneak dark chocolate but found I lost my taste for that somewhere along the line. This summer, I'm really enjoying a lot of berries and melons.

Andie

I have found that eating any sugar is horrible for me. It throws me into a depression.I eat No sugar, caffeine, yeast products, vinegar(except apple cider), alcohol...ever. Basically I follow Dr. B's food giudelines always. And it has made a very big difference. VERY BIG. I urge you to adopt a very strict diet. It is so much better. I do eat spelt or kamut bread. It has no yeast. I also eat rice cakes. Gosh I do miss stuff though, but not as much as I want to get better. Good luck

Cant really handle 2 or more days of bread.

Sugar is a nono.

Fruit ocassionally. Not every day.

Eggs every day, meat every day, veggies.
Thats about it!!!!

Coffee with slenda.

I react to sugar and starch with depression and pain and burning. Even pasta is a no.
Cheese gives me gas and cramps, so does milk.

I must admit though that I had 2 bowls of cereal today and I felt it.

Also I used to be able to tolerate irish oatmeal but even now I find that if I eat it every day my symptoms of burning and brain fog come back within 3 days.

Yes,, and this is coming from someone who used to eat lots of sugar and flour and everything like that. I was a fat kid. Now 70 pounds lighter but SICKER than I was back then!

I feel best when I eat natural, unprocessed foods. I can't follow the anti-yeast diet because I'm nauseous if I don't eat starch. I try to eat a lot of fresh fruit, which makes me feel good.

As far as protein goes, I'm allergic to tofu and feel sick if I eat a lot of protein. For some odd reason, beef sits best with me.

I eat low fat because I might have chronic pancreatitis.

I feel better drinking tea instead of coffee.

I honestly think that some of my digestive issues come from being on the anti-yeast diet for so long. I'm a huge supporter of the diet to prevent yeast, but it just didn't work for me. Now, if I try to eat just a piece of protein and vegetable, I can only get about 5-10 bites down and then my stomach just stops.

I eat all the same foods I always have without a good cook wife. I do absolutely NO cooking, never have, never will.

When my wife does make something, it is basically all prepared things she buys at the store. Just throw it in the microwave.

I eat mostly TV dinners that I put in the microwive myself. Mainly mashed potatoes, either chicken, turkey or Salisbury steak. Occasionally Sweet and Sour chicken.

I love pizzas and have a half of frozen one, microwaved of course, a couple times or so a week. Supremes with lots of green olives added.

I drink mostly skim milk. But also some water and juice mixed with water in my C-salts drink when I am taking my herbs.

I love salt, so use lots of that on my food, except on my sweets of course. Which is usually donuts, cookies, cakes, long johns, bismarcks, candy, etc..

I am not too much into fruits and vegetables. I do like canned french style green beans and peas.
Rarely eat fresh vegetables, unless at a restaurant and the have a decent salad bar. Then I will have a salad with my meal. About the only fruits I eat is one banana with my Cheerios IF I have that for breakfast. I don't like bananas, but I need potassium as my system does not retain much of it because of no colon.

I absolutely MUST HAVE one cup of decaf coffee every morning for breakfast, with milk in it. I do not like most teas. The only soda I drink these days is 7-Up Plus, once in awhile. An occasional beer, but not very often. About the only other alcohol I drink is the little Vodka in the tinctures I take for my Lyme.

I like a little Lasagna once in a while, also. Doritos with medium hot cheese dip is my downfall. Love it. Can make a meal of it.

Crackers with my chunky soups from Aldi's. Rarely eat bread anymore. When I do, it is usually whole wheat Brownberry. I can't stand SOFT breads.

I NEVER eat fish or seafood. It has been many years since I touched them. Just don't like them.

Once in a great while a Subway sub. Never go to Hardees, Burger King or McDonalds anymore. Once in awhile go to Taco Bell.

As far as I know I have never had a yeast problem. Hope I don't, that would be a disaster with what I eat.

I used to eat a lot of ice cream, but not much anymore.

Guess that is it.

Generally low-carb, plus avoiding foods high in vitamin D (eggs, fish, fortified milk and cereals) since they make the infection worse.

I eat a vegetarian, anticandida diet-all organic and fresh foods. No sugar, no dairy products and uasually no yeast.

Brown rice, brown rice crackers, corn tortillas, quinoa, cream of buckweat cereal, sometimes whole wheat sugar free homemade baked goods, vegetarian sushi, sometimes oatmeal or chicory root syrup sweetened granola, blue corn chips

Nuts, cashews and almonds mostly, almond butter, beans, tofu, unsweetened plain soy yogurt, some fresh eggs from our own chickens

avacadoes, grapefruit, lemons, aliitle berries sometimes, raspberries and blueberries seem ok

Red skinned potatoes, carrots, lettuce, kale, snow peas, cucumbers, etc... all of the green vegetables

Olive oil, occasional butter (when I make pancakes or am out and nned to eat whole wheat toast), homemade salad dressing, soy sauce

I sweeten with stevia (in decaf coffee, esp), xylitol and chickory root extract when I bake, xylitol makes a good lemonade w/ fresh lemons, I NEVER touch sugar, honey etc... I DO buy some maltitol sweetened chocolate bars (try Yamate brand, do google search and order online)

Sometimes I cheat, and I can usual tell the effects right away. I thought I would be ok with some freh organic strawberries when off on a romantic weekend away, and biy did they make me spacey !! They were good tho. I occasionally cheat w/ whole wheat bread when out, if I do I put alot of fat on it.
