Not supposed to hurt. Do you know how many grams of Vitamin C were used and how long it took to get the IV? If a large dose was given too quickly it could possibly "burn" your veins.

Don't know if you have had IV's before or not. Was the pain just at the insertion site (where the needle went in) or all the way up the arm?

I give hubby this same dose (25 grams) of IV Vitamin C 1 or 2 times a week. Have been doing this for a couple of years now. Usually put it in over 30 - 45 minutes. 3 hours is a really long IV.

Hubby has a new PICC line and the last IV ran in really quickly -- about 20 minutes. It made his veins ache all over his body -- think it caused some sort of inflammatory reaction. Pain was severe for an hour or so.

Not really sure what happened with your IV -- that slow should not have caused problems in my opinion.

You might try again with a lower dose.

I haven't done Vitamin C again with hubby, but have done IV Primaxin and IV colloidal silver (Argentyn 23) since without problems.

I do hubby's Vitamin C IV's in 250cc of D5W -- you could try a larger IV bag (500cc) to see if diluting the concentration more would help.

i have had it done 3 times now and it hurt every time so i don't know if its just me or something else. she broke one of my viens the first time so she had to put it in the other arm but it didn't matter which arm it was in.

Last August-November or so, I had a Vitamin C/Hydrogen Peroxide IV protocol. One bag each on alternating days. Let me tell you, even at a low concentration of 12grams or so, the pain was so severe that it was not possible for me to continue. I even tried taking percocet and xanex before going. Eventually, I had a PICC line inserted and after that, I didn't feel a thing, even at concentrations of 60-80 grams.

The pain could be the catheter touching the vein wall. It could be the actual infusion. Ask them to put magnesium in your next one -- it hurts less and one doesn't feel as cold.
