I just recently added on Kyolic garlic. I wasn't too systematic about my choice. I just decided to pick it up in the Vitamin Shoppe. I'm generally more sensitive to anything, so I only take one after breakfast, and one after dinner.
I'd read/heard it had some abx properties, and protects against getting bit by insects (true?). Straighten me out on that one if need be. I'm mighty foggy.
Anyway I've been pretty nauseous and my GI has felt blecch. Not hungry, yet if I do think of something to eat, it's invariably not good for me.
Is this to be expected? Is this a herx?
I'm also feeling more foggy & headachy than normal.
I have read some back posts, and see freeze dried may be my next choice if I stick with it.

Hi,
When I was first diagnosed with Lyme and was seeing a naturopath who has chronic Lyme, along with being treated by my LLMD, the naturopath upped my dosage of garlic. I have taken garlic supplements all my life with no problem.
She switched me to the liquid organic form of Kyolic where you have to pour it into gelatin capsules. It's very strong.
The first time I used the liquid form, even in a small dose, I felt it go right to my head. I had to build up over time to a higher dosage, then could finally taking it without getting headachy, foggy, etc.
I think with Lyme, the garlic was causing a die-off. I'm not sure if it was a yeast die-off or a Lyme die-off, but that is probably what you are experiencing.
I had used garlic supplements in my pre-Lyme days to treat and cure yeast issues, and with Lyme, our yeast problems can be big. So garlic is a great thing to be on for both the yeast and Lyme.
I would just go slowly and build up over time. Don't push your body to take more than it can handle.
At the moment, I am recovering from major GI distress, so I've gone off garlic for a few days because I think it would irritate things.
So just listen to your body. Maybe even dump out half the capsule and try a smaller dose when you feel up to it.
I know others on this board recommend the freeze dried, which I may try when I run out of my current brand, but personally I've done great with Kyolic.
Take care, Jill

I started to take Chlorella and Metagenics SuperGarlic 6000 at the same time. By day 2 I was hurting bad. I basically was in the bathroom ALL DAY. I had my gallbladder out 6 years ago so I already had digestive issues. I went back on the Chlorella but have not tried the garlic yet. I will start with one a day in the future.

I take Kyolic tablets sometimes. I have an acid reflux type reaction with them. I get nauseated and have a burning sensation at the back of my throat and in my stomach. I don't think I have GI problems though.
I eat a lot of garlic in food and don't have the same problem. I think it's the concentration of the pills. I also only take one a day.
Take care,
Corgilla

Thanks for your replies. It's good to know my hunch is confirmed. I'm feeling slightly better, so maybe it'll just take some time. I will cut back to 1/day, and at night, after dinner.
Last night, we were outside til after 11 - no mosquito bites for me, and they used to love me. Hmmmmm. I do hope I don't smell different though - and I haven't asked anybody to smell me yet. : )
On the herbal front, I get big herx with cat's claw and rhodiola (mostly severe headaches, but crazy neuro buzzing stuff with cat's claw). I had to opt for being able to work, over enduring those effects - but maybe I could eventually work my way up to taking one of them.
Jill, that's fortunate you have a naturopath who also has Lyme. I wish I could find a naturopath in my area who was knowledgable.
Best, Kelly
