Thanks for the good words Tabers.

I would like to only hear from those who are DOING THE PROTOCOL AS WRITTEN OR HAVE AN LLMD WHO IS PRESCRIBING THE PROTOCOL. Please PM me with your LLMD's name and location. I live in Upstate NY.

Thanks!

Chris

Troutscout knows Dr Taylor. I have his email if you need it.

I've been on this board many years, and I don't remember anyone raving about how great this protocol works.

Most feel better taking Diflucan, for whatever reason though.

Hi,

I recieved messages from both of you asking about how I did on the diflucan protocol.

I started at 50mg for 4 days then 100mg for 4 days. I couldn't make it past that. I got really sick.

Saw my doc and he said try 50 mg for 1 month then 100mg for one month then 200mg for 2 months. Also, the doc said the reason it wasn't working was my diet. Just about every food was taken off my list of things I could eat. No cheese, no fruit, no milk products, no starch, no sugar - not even stevia, no mushrooms, no carbs, no pork.

I asked what I should eat and he basically said chicken and hamburgers.

I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks because I couldn't find anything I wanted and was allowed to eat.

I couldn't make it past 5 days on 50 mgs. I tried on 4 different occasions.

I have never been so sick. Pain, sleep problems, nausea were the main problems. Also a plethora of previous Lyme symptoms.

I have given up. I think part of the reason I'm not responding is that I have Bart that has never been treated. I also think my Babs may be in need for a second treatment.

I'm not being treated for anything now since I left my ILADS LLMD to try the protocol and I now don't trust the doc who rx's that.

Hope this helps,

Corgilla

NO stevia and hamburgers were OK???? [Eek!]

The anti-yeast diet is VERY important in getting well from Lyme & Co. VERY.

Hope this helps!:

Candida diet and elimination:

http://www.wholeapproach.com/diet/
Lyme symptoms list compared with yeast symptoms
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021202.html

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

I improved on the Schardt protocol. I took 40 days of Diflucan 200mg and then 25 days of Penicillin. I feel better when I am on Diflucan.

I did not modifiy my diet. Although I don't eat something sweet daily. I did eat bread and cheese.

I did a couple of rounds of the protocol. By improving I mean, better energy and less brain fog which are my main symptoms. I did have an increase of muscle/joint pain as I herxed, but Epsom Salt baths helped with that symptom.

http://www.neuroborreliose.net/veroeffentlichungenpublications/index.htm

From that link you can go to Dr. Schardt's own publication "Clinical Effects of Fluconazole in Patients with Neuroborreliosis" (in English.

From canvassing the website some time ago, I noted that he does not treat, per se, co-infections unless positive by lab. My hunch is that co-infections are affected by this treatment also - it's one eco-system after all. The fungi hold a multitude of stuff in its cell walls, including heavy metals. That would be Dr. K's comment.

Take care.

Before I ever knew about Lyme I went on an anti-candida program that spanned several years and I did have improvement. I took diflucan for about a year but that was after over a year of over-the-counter anti-candida treatments along with changing my diet.

I don't know what your fungal/candida load is but my thought is that if you are having a terrible reaction to diflucan, you may have an easier time if you first make sure that you get your candida under control so that you don't have terrible symptoms from die off of candida to contend with. I was really sick for the first several months of OTC treatment for candida because I had quite a candida burden and that is without having taken much in the way of abx for many years.

Some good anti-candida OTC supplements are:
Caprylic acid
garlic
Pau d arco
grapefruit seed extract
tanalbit (this is a strong anti-fungal)
and there are others.

Lymetutu has often given good references for anti-candida diet.

I'm not a doctor, just offering this suggestion in the chance that it might help you to get on the diflucan treatment.

Hi,

I have never had yeast problems. I even had the "lovely" multiple stool sample candida test and it was negative.

I think I may have had a bad reaction to the diflucan. One of my symptoms was severe abdominal pain. That's listed as one of the things you should stop taking diflucan if you experience.

I'm going to try the GFCFSFCF (Glucose free, Caseine free, Soy free, Corn free) diet now. Even that is easier than what my doc was telling me to do. At least fruit is allowed with this one.

Hope this helps,

Corgilla

I am on Diflucan treatment now-Schardt protocol with LLMD. Into my 40th day or so.
I herxed bad the first week, then improved.

I was on Diflucan to clean my system after a bout with C-diff. After my LLMD saw how I responded, we decided to give it a shot for 20 more days then throw in the amox.

I am not sure if I am herxing again, or my symptoms are Bart related (never tested POS and had 3 tests done with reputable labs we all know)

Even spent the time and money to visit DR. E in Jersey and he suspected Bart, but then came back with a Chronic Lyme diagnosis.

My LLMD is not totally convinced. Right now my symptoms are swollen painful glands, hands and feet hurt with what feels like nodules.
I have a bad pressure in my spine it feels like too and I shake from it. (Not babs shaking)

I'll let you know how I progress or regress.
If it becomes unbearable, or Bart like syptoms do not go away, we will do Rifampina and Mino for bart. I have done Avelox treatment and Doxy with some improvement.

My son and I are better.

We began several months of diflucan last winter followed by one month ketek. Weren't quite well so did another month of diflucan and then have been pulsing ever since. We have stretched out our interval a few days because we are symptom free.

I still had some arthritis in the spring, llmd had me do NO wheat at all and continue the low carb diet as well. No more arthritis in three weeks. I had no gut symptoms, but did have several mineral/vitamin deficiencies. They are correcting themselves now that I'm absorbing food better.

I was treated for 3 co-infections and both of us were on tetra for 2.5 years. Tetra can address several co-infections so not to worry if you aren't getting positive test results.

My son is applying to colleges and struggling to make up the lost work and get better writing and study skills.

We have our life back. I spent last week sailing on Lake Onterio, sailing in 30+ winds on Sunday-faster than I have ever gone on a 24' sailboat before! It was great to be the only one on the boat not on pain meds and the oldest too!

Keep at it, YOU will get better. It took years for your immune system to fail, give it wholesome foods so it can heal. The low carb diet and food sensitivites are huge.
