Last year my new LLMD finally found Babs in me after being diagnosed in 2002 with lyme but never getting better. My IGM was 1028- very high!

I did 5 months of Mepron/Zithro/Art. I had lots of herxes. Then did a few weeks of Malarone and was taken off the Babs meds. Oh boy did my symptoms return and/or new ones appear! I finally knew what air hunger was and I was very weak. Lots of fevers.

I have done Mepron Zithro/Art again and also Mepron/Biaxin/Art. In the past 2 months the dosage of Mepron was upped to 3 tsp a day from 2. This caused many head type inflammation pains and sever eye pains. Had my eyes checked fine.

My question is to those with Babs- Did your doctor ever up your Mepron treatment to 3 tsp and how did you feel? And did they ever take you off the Mepron and try something else?

Hides, I was negative on babs tests but clinically had the symptoms.

I started with 1 tsp 2 x day mepron and it was bumped to 2.5 teaspons 2xday. It is figured by weight I weigh 210.

I stopped mepron only a week or two ago. Too many GI symptoms. Made me really sick.

Its too soon to tell if symptoms are coming back. I see my LLMD in 2 weeks.

I always took the mepron with fish oil (fatty foods for absorption) and took artemisinin.

Here's what I did. It's extreme, so if you explore this, make sure you do lots of research first.

First two months:

Take G6PD deficiency test through Quest Labs. If you have no deficiency, then...

15mg "base" primaquine per day, pulsed four days on, two days off. Expect extreme side effects the first 2-3 weeks, and do not drive at all the first week you take it.

Then...

Day 1 300mg chloroquine twice a day
Day 2 300mg chloroquine once a day
Day 3 300mg chloroquine once a day

Take a break of at least one week after this 3-day course of chloroquine, no exceptions for any reason, I don't care how desperate you are, and go back to pulsing primaquine. No one under the age of 18 can use this chloroquine dosage. You can lower the primaquine dosage, though, to 30mg per week from here on out. If you have any kind of G6PD deficiency, or cannot tolerate primaquine at the 15mg base dosage of four days on, two days off, then it's okay to cut back to 30mg base per week for 30 weeks.

Repeat this chloroquine course until your symptoms do not return. I ended up taking three chloroquine courses, spaced at least one week apart. If chloroquine does not work for you, you can try substituting quinine, but make sure you check the dosage and are under the supervision of a reputable doctor.

I will not be near a computer again for a week, and cannot respond to personal emails, but have written about this frequently in the archives.

My son now is also taking 3 tsp daily of mepron. He sees his llmd in 10 days. He pulses zith (2 daily)..... 4 days on/three off.....and takes art.

He's a very skinny 23 year old.

My doctor, during several months of treatment for Babs, incremented the dosage from 2 tsp./dy. to 3 tsp./dy. The treatment always included Artimisin but the other antibiotic changed. I started with Zithro but forget the other one.

I found Babs to be very hard to control.

I have done those combinations before too and sometimes with Bactrim/Septrin added too, though I find it hard to tolerate in the dose recommended by my LLMD.

Towards the end of the first round of treatment - 1 yr, I was upped to 3 teaspoons a day for weeks -don't recall much difference at that stage. I generally feel run down on Mepron - lots of buzzing, fatigue etc and I do think it starves the body a bit as it starves the parasites to kill them.

I have stopped Mepron after 5 months this time and had to take NT factor for mitochondrial damage..my remaining symptoms may or may not be Babesia.

Previous to this my LLMD wanted me to take Lariam but I could not do it..too scared.

I thought Mepron had anti inflammatory effects? not sure.
