My doctor said that because my Western Blot test from Igenex showed a positive result for the 83-93 band that this means I also have the cystic form of lyme disease. She said that the higher the number of the band that showed up the more likely cyst form is present. Has anyone heard this before? I've been trying to read as many posts here as possible, read books, and search the web, but have not seen this info anywhere. Also, is it best to pulse the ABX (Flagyl, Tindamax) when cyst form is present?

I am newbie - recently diagnosed with neuro lyme/chronic lyme after 15 years of MS diagnosis and 29 years after the tick bite. Thank you to everyone on this message board for such helpful information. After spending the last 15 years studying and researching MS and traveling to doctors, I find myself now starting over with the research process and it sure has helped to read the posts at this site.

I've never heard about a certain band being able to pinpoint cysts. If it were true, and accurate, Dr's would be using it routinely to check patients progress. If you have Lyme, then you have the cysts. They can change form when they sense attack from your immune system or abx.

No one knows what the ratio of cysts to keets is, or how much Tx is needed to get rid of them. Most Dr's don't spend much time treating the cyst form, but my guess is that it takes just as much time to get them as it does the keets. And if you only hit one form at a time, then you are always leaving them an escape route.

Jill-

It is my understanding that there is no currently approved test to determine whether or not lyme is in the cyst form. I have not heard this description before about the 83-93 band.

The cysts or "bits" as we call the various forms are part of lyme and have to be addressed.
