I started Mepron today and have read here that it should be taken with fat for absorption. I eat vey little meat, does anyone have any other suggestion?

Cheese, ice cream, whole milk are other options. I've been told vegetable oil is a good one, too. I don't know the amounts.
I drink about 1/2 cup whole milk with Mepron, but not because anyone told me this is enough. Rather, that is all the calories I'm willing to ingest of something in which I take no pleasure.

maybe this is a good excuse to take some algae, flax or fish omega 3 oil.

I got a bucket of KFC & a bunch of Reeses & went wild. I know, shameful, but it had been years of depriving myself & I felt OK in the AM.

Hi Nancy, My daughter has been taking Mepron for awhile now. She takes it with a heaping teaspoon of peanut butter and has been ok with it.

After all, we know the fried chicken qualifies for the fat content & the Reese's cups are filled with peanut butter (another good source of fat calories with Mepron).
Nancy, On the serious side - As expensive as Mepron is, be sure you get enough fat grams. You want your body to be able to use the medicine as efficiently as possible.
When I was on Mepron, I used meat, peanut butter, cheese, butter on vegetables, whole milk, or ice cream......always in moderation & never all at one meal.
It's best to try to avoid as much sugar as possible, but not to the point that you cut back too much on the fat grams.
I considered this as important as the abx, supplements, & good nourishing foods.
The good news was that the Mepron worked & I didn't gain a bit while on added fat grams for the treatment.

I'm so pleased that you asked this question Nancy...I had been wondering this myself, but didn't want to bug anyone
I LOVE the chicken and candy option...but am afraid that I would feel sort of yucky in the morning, cause I would have to eat the whole bucket and the whole bag!
So, I have been doing the peanut butter thing instead...a teaspoon of Mepron followed by a teaspoon of peanut butter.
Do you guys think that will do it? Is that enough fat? Is there a rule to how much fat is needed?
Thanks, M

From what I remember they did a study. It was determined 11-13 grams of fat were best... as the minimum.
And you KNOW what I went for... don't ya?
TWO times a day!
Ice cream!
I also added bacon to the menu of fatty things.. as I could cook up a pound at a time... and grab some quickly in the morning to warm in the microwave and eat.
I DO like Froggy's idea... "I got a bucket of KFC & a bunch of Reeses & went wild. I know, shameful, but it had been years of depriving myself & I felt OK in the AM."

Per day? Or per dose?

For food, do you like almonds???? Any other nuts?
How about w/ another oil supplement you take, like the fish oil, evening primrose, lecithin?
The almonds are good for you and taste good. I take a small handful....end of week three and no weight gain....actually a bit of loss.
I have trouble w/ the fat because I'm not a meat eater, hate mayo and don't like butter cept with my corn on the cob!
Do you cook or use olive oil? I made my salad dressing w/ the olive or walnut oil, yum!
Use whole milk at this time if you can.
Now as Tincup mentioned this gave me an excuse to make homemade ice cream ...like I would need an excuse!
If you want a summer treat and can tolerate fruit make some homemade whipped cream and use that on top of fesh strawberries, raspberries, peaches or what ever is fresh at the market.
It's easy....use one (very cold) small carton of heavy whipping cream, and whip on high speed in a stainless steel bowl, make sure not a drop of water is in the bowl. After whipping for a min or two add some vanilla extract and 10X sugar to taste keep whipping on high speed till thick and peaks form.
After you taste this you will never buy commercial whipped cream again!

Ok, I had to look... according to the jars in my fridge...
1 Tbsp of Peanut Butter is 8 grams. 1 Tbsp of Almond Butter slightly higher at 9.
So, a nice heaping tablespoon ought to do it.
