Question for the women here...

Do your symptoms get worse before your period?

I am absolutely miserable for the week before. Muscle weakness worse, breathing worse, pain worse.

Anyone try birth control pills for it? I'm scared to try hormones because hormones are what make me feel sicker in the first place.
ObGyn also wasn't crazy about messing around with heart/breathing issues.

Any ideas?

My symptoms are always 10 times worse starting a week before my period, especially my digestive issue's... Some months this happens before my period which is most times then I will have months where I will get worse after my period and stay like that until my next cycle where it goes back to happening before it.. Makes no sense to me..

I had really unpredictable and long periods when I was first diagnosed with Lyme. I am now on a very low dose birth control pill that has assisted with my cycles while leaving my mental status alone.

My symptoms were always worse before my period. My LLMD and I used to call this PLMS (Pre-Lyme-Menstrual-Syndrome). [Wink]

I never took anything specific for it like hormones.

The Lyme is the invader and you need to address it and not your hormones. There are things you can take to ease those nasty symptoms that occur before your period. Your best bet is to consult an LLMD.

YES! Alot of my lyme symptoms flare when I am PMS. [Frown] Bummer because this happens every month and lasts about a week & 1/2 in total.

when I am pms I am bloating and retaining water=inflamation [Frown]

I have read that Rasberry and danilion tea are good for water retention at the pms time of the month.

It really s@cks being a woman and having lyme. At least for me it does. Even under the best of times for me there is a small window that I can feel at my best. [Roll Eyes]

I hope your LLMD can be of some help.

make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD

Not only the lyme is worse but the babesia follows suit: nights sweats are increased for me also. Stay strong and hope your symptoms diminish!

I am just newly diagnosed (6/13/06), but have not noticed much change around the time of my cycle. I am on birth control though, although with the abx I am on, I do not rely on it.

I had such intense pain that would start right with my period. The pain would immobilize me, and then my muscles would be tight for a full 2 weeks.

So I went on the pill. Month one was awful...constant pain. Month two less so. Now I'm much better and have broken the cycle. I was never one for the pill before, but I love it now.
