I'm glad things are not going as bad as you feared... heal well! Hopefully you will clear die off easily and not herx too badly.
Otherwise, you are still early into your iv treatment, and the best may be yet to come... but we are all different and herxing is determined by our ability to get rid of the toxicity well.
Eat healthy, plenty of fluid, moderate exercise, good humor, good rest, wish you well!

Most likely the med is working. Your herx can be old symptoms intensified, or entirely new symptoms you don't recall ever having before.
Herxes can come at any time, but the monthly cycle is every 3-5 wks.

The mechanics of the herxhiemer reaction are related to the fact that the antibiotic kills the bacteria and the pieces that are left over from the killing process are what make you sick.
The degree of reaction is directly related to the number of organisms that are killed. If you had been taking any type of antibiotic previously then you will have already killed off quite a few, witht he result that follow up IV will produce less of a reaction. The IV would then be intended to try to get the sequestered bacteria that can only be reached with higher peak doses that can only be achieved with IV.
Based on this, one does not expect as bad a reaction on follow up IV (ie orals befre) as compared to IV as an initial treatment. Initially,I did IV straight with no previous orals and it was VERY VERY VERY bad. In subsequent relapse, going back on IV did produce an intensification of symtoms but they were relatively mild compared to the initial reaction. On the IV the second timne (after orals)the trend was a gradual improvement over time. This compared to a persitent decline on oral anitbiotics only.
Remember that IV and oral antibiotics are basically the same (note:there are some different tyes that can only be taken with IV and vice versa) and that the only really big difference is that the PEAK concentration can be higher with IV. This higher concentration typically helps to penetrate into hard to reach areas like cartilage and the brain.
Hope that description helps.
Good luck.

Achey, Thanks for the support. I am glad too but was concerned because the nurse said the worse you feel the more it is helping.
Treepatrol, I will mark the days down. Thanks for explaining that to me. But I only get 28 days of IV due to insurance ever in my lifetime. So does that mean it only helps every 30-34 days?
Lymetoo, As always thanks for your kind words and help.
David1097, I appreciate the explanation it was very helpful.
I hope to someday know as much about this nightmare as all of you do. Don't know what I will do after this if my LLMD can no longer help me with meds.
Thnks again, mimi
