Has anyone here been on oral antibiotics that ended up helping them with there neuro symptoms especially with it helping to be able to walk better? I have noticed that since starting them, my walking has gotten much worse. I walk with a cane now and still can't pick my feet up much, still causing me to fall from time to time.
Need some help with this one, getting me worried. [Eek!]

I started to have muscle weakness making it difficult to walk. For awhile, I could only walk in front of or around my house outside, then I had to go in and sit down. This was highly disturbing and scary for me.

Now, in my 7th month of treatment, I am starting to be able to walk again. The last two weeks I've walked around the block, and then some. Also, getting back into my yoga. I'm ecstatic!

I think that the treatment makes us worse before we get better. At some point I would expect that you will turn around and regain the ability to walk.

It's tough to hang on through the difficulties of lyme and it's treatment. Just keep on visualizing yourself walking normally, and one day you will surprise yourself, and be able to do just that.

Best wishes,
Hopeful4

Hubby's 1st antibiotic was IV Rocephin. While on that med he had episodes of leg weakness. Also times when he walked with a Parkinsonian shuffle. Other times he could not walk a straight line -- always went to the left. He had several falls. Many times I would literally have to pick his foot up and move it for him so he could step up onto a curb or going up steps.

Leg muscle weakness and walking problems are not just confined to oral antibiotics. These are not unusual herx symptoms. It does get better.

The only thing I can suggest to maybe help is to be sure to take COQ10 (400mg minimum) and Resveratrol and as many antioxidants and brain circulation enhancing supplements as possible. In my opinion most of these type symptoms are a result of inflammation and free radicals in the brain.

Hope you feel better soon.

I think my leg problems are more due to arthritis, but my inability to stand for more than 15 minutes without pain could be neurological.

I have been on oral Biaxin and Doxy for about a year and things have gotten worse. I now have to use a cane sometimes and am in the process of leaving my 2 part time jobs, because I just don't know from day to day how I will be getting around.

On the good side, most of my other neurological symptoms are gone, such as inability to get words out, not being able to type what my brain wanted me to, and walking into walls.

This may not offer much hope at the moment, but I do try to stay optimistic. I have been sick for 26 years, so it isn't going away fast.

I have had some trouble with my right leg for quite some time. It has gotten worse over the past two months. I now walk with a weird "prancing" motion with my right leg. In other words, I pick it up at the knee so my toe doesn't drag and trip me.

I am sure that isn't normal...although the neuro didn't pick up on it when I visited a few weeks ago. I have no idea if it is due to Lyme or some other affliction.
