My GI dr prescribed it. I have taken it in the past. Ironically when I discontinued taking it, the GI pain started up (I was taking it for other nerve pain at the time).

I hope this will help??? Geez. I feel like a walking drug cabinet sometimes. [Roll Eyes]

My GI prescribed it too, for IBS. Can't say it did a whole lot for me-but that's because i don't think I had/have IBS- I think I have food allergies. I don't take it anymore. But I sure hope it helps you.

Then my Urogyn prescribed amitriptyline for my bladder, which also didn't seem to do much so I stopped that too.

I feel like a science experiement-and cringe sometimes when I think of all the chemical reactions going on in my body. Wonder what it would feel like sometimes to be totally drug free.

I'm being weaned off of it as we speak. I am also taking Lyrica, which is helping immensly for the nerve pain. Doc decided I didn't need both.

FYI--watch the weight gain....it's horrid.

I take a low dose of nortriptoline for dysautonomia. Ironically I think it has helped my GI pain on some days. Let me know what it does for you.

I just find any info that supports that nortriptiline can help with GI issues. Why are antidepressants sometimes given for GI symptoms?

I haven't heard of it being for GI symptoms; however, it might help your system get into synch which is part of the problem. That is why my Internal Medicine/Lyme doc has me on it. My GI doc has never mentioned it to me so that is a new one on me. Maybe he is thinking outside the box???
