Hi Lymer88,

Sorry to hear that you've joined us- but then again happy to hear that you've found us!

Lots of great info here- it has been invaluable to me during the last 2 years-

Don't feel like a nOOb- I don't know my strain either...seems that often it's a mixture of things- so look at the co-infections as well, even if you don't test positive for them

There's lots of advice for a newbie, but I'll throw in a few thoughts to start...

really consider going on a low carb no alcohol diet- I think it's made a real difference in my healing so far- and I think if I'd done it sooner, I'd be further along now-

make sure that you are getting enough probiotic- I have plain sugar free yogurt every day and I think it has saved my gut- ( along with a variety of probiotic supplements )

Use the search engine on this site- it's a great resource

Best of luck to you-

Sarah

Hi lymer, You just described every symptom I have. I would only add Low blood pressure and fainting to mine. My dizziness is so bad I can't walk or drive. Your left flank pain interests me
as this seams to be kidney related.
Some of my tests showed , Low Renin,Low Aldosterone and low Citrate; All kidney/Adrenal connected. Low blood volume is a strong possibility as fluid volume is regulated by the kidney. I know kidney involvement is documented with lyme. I've had thursh for 3 years now so I think the ear problem is fungal from taking ABX.

As far as "what strain" Labs can't even tell you if you have lyme. Maybe if you had a definate PCR
they may be able to tell what strain it is.

I don't think I've helped you any but your symptoms interest me. What tests have you had?
Al

Although everything you listed *can* be caused by lyme, a few things (the sweats, chills, stiff neck for starters) sound a lot like babesia symptoms, too. Did you mention migraines as well??

If those symptoms don't clear up along with the others, I'd be thinking babs, myself --- turned out that was what was responsible for the worst of my symptoms -- feeling a lot better now with treatment.

There's some pretty strong evidence that most (if not all) of us have at least one co-infection, and often several of them...

Ok you guys have helped i dont feel like such a n00b now . Some symptoms havent budged at all with biaxin and i hear 1500 mil. a day for a 130lb. 17year old kid is heavy dose. Alot of my symptoms have gone away completely .I still notice that after stopping abx these symptoms still occur . Im seeing my doc. next week i am going to ask his opinion on mayb trying doxy?
- cells show up as well as floaters when i look into the sky i hear once some ppl develop floaters they are with them a lifetime
- shakiness/ tremors unpredictable still present intermittent
- general itchiness at times still occurs no rash or hives

What do you guys think i know my abx doseage was aggresive enough but do you think 3month period was long enough. I think a round of doxy may not be a bad idea as my doc had suggested this in the beg. seeing if the biaxin bothered me . Only drawback he told me was if i work outside in the sun and i will toast on doxy ???

Hi Lymer88

Thats a difficult question. Depends on how long you where sick with lyme before your treatment, how co-infected you are ect..Have you talked to your doctor about co-infections?

Some people had to have years of treatment before they are in a symptom free remission.
Some can get away with less.

Many doctors believe you have to treat the "whole body" ie: diet, toxins ect...

Read alot of the posts here. Use the search button for all its worth.

My best suggestion is do as much reading & research as possible.

Lyme disease is very complex and I believe you can never know too much about it.

Good luck and take care

make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD

Lymer88,

It seems like one of your fairly immediate problems is that the Biaxin is tearing you up. It's a good medicine but it does do that. In my experience the first several months were pretty bad then my body started getting used to it.

Zithromax is thought to be less irritating to the GI tract than Biaxin. That might be a possibility to discuss with your doctor.

Do you take your medicine with food? That might help. Also, are you taking probiotics. They help some people but seemed to make me worse.

There probably is no definitive answer about what is aggressive enough. I guess it's aggressive enough if it works. It stand to reason that the longer one has been infected, it may take longer to get positive results and more aggessive approaches may be required. I was infected at least twelve years before getting treated. Odds are, at your age, you haven't been sick nearly as long and probably will progress and recover faster.

Make sure you get treated for babesia before stopping the meds completely. Also you should be symptom free for at least 2 months before stopping the meds.

I've taken Biaxin for long periods without any stomach/digestive trouble at all. Doxy was much harder to tolerate. Here's my method:

Take after a full meal.

Drink lots of water with it and for at least an hour after taking it. Be sure to drink water throughout the day.

Strict Anti Yeast Diet (www.wholeapproach.com. For one year I had zero fruit, grain, flour etc. Now I don't need to be quite as strict)

Heavy duty probiotics every night before bed. I like theralac (www.theralac.com) primadophilus Reuteri also works well for me.

Are you taking Plaquenil with the Biaxin? I'm having good results with that combo. I do that for 6 months and then do tetracycline 1500mgs/day for 6 months. I'm getting better.

I had many of the symptoms you describe. It is hard to know which are Lyme and which are co-infections. Stick around, there is so much info here. Try using the Search function to find old posts on relevant topics.
