I will talk with Dr H ( i'm bad copy and paste something) about this.. I can not trust my general doctor since he put me on the metoprolol and does not take into consideration that the mild pulmonary obstruction is causing this duress in my lungs and chest...

I know I have gotten worse since yesterday I did a few mild things and I am in so much pain today!
My appointment today with pain management was canceled she is out sick...
I'm not so sure that I need to have some form of heart pills and this may be causing my chest pain ..
it is consuming my entire left side front through the back in the area of the shoulder blade.. to the mid left side of my breast it is much worse when I inhale.. but even when so severe forget trying to cough that literally tears through me ... I move and more so when I get upset..
the slightest exertion brings on this clammy cold sweating.. they keep telling me my lungs are clear... and my heart is fine... well I have since stopped taking the heart pill because it appeared they were making my breathing harder .. but now I am not so sure .. it appears mild exertion .. and the slightest activity sets the pain in motion......
who can tell me what is going on .. cause the ducks here don't seem to pin point the cause.. should I start taking the metoprolol again ??? I am so scared..

Hi Livin

Babs can cause chest pain Big Time--
Lyme too to some extent

I thought I was haveing a constant heart
attack for a couple of years--

The chest pain is caused by the cartlige
between the rib cage getting inflamed--
so any time you move -breath ect-
it makes it hurt worse--

The pains can range from Sharp
to dull and lingering--

Most people the pain is worse on the left
side-- I have no clue why tho--

Babs also causes the heart to have
a crazy heart beat-skipps studders -
beats hard -soft --crazy--

Its real scairy--seems like everyone
gets the heart checked and find no problem-
me included--

Babs also causes hard breathing--for most-
not all tho --

the symptoms usually worsen at night--
usually about 2am to 7am --

For some reason this happens on this
scedual for most folks-

Babs also causes excessive sweats--
They can range from all the time
to only at night--
from mild to drenching--

Head neck and upper chest seem to be the
areas that sweat the most- Jay--

My son would get these so bad that we ended up at a heart specialist. He said it was the lyme and Babs but gave my son Indocin for the chest pains and it did help. When he does not take the medication he feels it right away. He had many tests at the heart doctor but they all came back ok.

Good Luck

A coworker had similar pain. Went to the ER and it was a pulmonary embolism. If she hadn't caught it, she could have died.

Severe chest pain is one of those things you want to go the ER for. Even if you think it's something else. We can explain it away as Babs, or Lyme. But what if it isn't?

Heart pain is nothing to mess around with. If caught early, lots of heart stuff can be fixed fairly easily. The new stents out these days are just amazing! I hate not knowing if symptoms are Lyme(or coinfection) related or not. Wishing you the best!

I was in ER last week SOB.. chest pains.. coughing.. cold clammy sweats) like when i coughed my whole chest shook this was when the pain was at it's worst..) they held me there 7 hours because they were under staffed.. and told me my chest Xray and EKG were fine.. so taken rubitusson and get rest return to work on monday) I went to LLMD on monday he gave me alinia and ketex I could not get the script for alinia but have taken almost all the ketex.. still got this blasted pain.. adn the cold clammy sweats with weakness all over.. the pain is too much thouhg!!

I have abnormal ekg's most indicate septal MI,,,, and they ran an echo that shows moderate degree of damage.. my halter proved that my heart races for more than 8 hours in a 24 hour period .. well geeze that part I could have told them.. but I never really knew it before I just thought that was me getting upset...
I can read the tests that show abnormal here goes .. but the pain in my upper back got worse after being put on the metoprolol.... breathing problems got worse... ketex is making certain I guess I don't have pneumonia.. but what is this pain in my upper back from?? I cant' deal with it on top of my herniated discs!!! It is too much!!!.
ok the test results:

Halter

late at night
sinus rhythm, the average heart rate was 102 BPM with a range of 72 - 154 BPM the heart rate was above 100 BPM for more than 8 hours and 13 minutes some ST changes noted the pt C/O pain on halter monitor dairy tachycardia of 109 and 104 BPM seen during these times (okay so I am used to the feeling!)

this recent EKG states this:
normal sinus rhythm rate 66:normal P axis . PR rate and rhythm
vertical axis unusual for age , QRS axis 81 to 90 & age > 40
Consider anteroseptal infarction; Q?S in V1 & V2 and someone agreed....

the last ekg chart I have from ER visit in 2003 following the last normal one taken on me 2 weeks previous states this:
Abnormal EKG septal infarction
Sinus rhythm
Loss of R wave & deeper Q in V3 compared to prior EKG 03/30/03 can not exclude old septal MI

pulmonary function report

my lipid profile came back high as usual since age 32... but they called this past week to tell me that it was 190... cool but they were supposed to be running a thyroid test from what the doctor said not a lipid test.. asked if I had eaten so it sounds like he played and fast one on me, said he was running a thyroid and ran a lipid instead...

I have seizures returning..
I have dxed high bP
dxed rapid heart rate
dxed hypo thyriod
dxed lumbar back pain under manage ment.. no mention yet of dxed anything on pulmonary...

PLEASE GO TO THE ER or an urgent care center.

left sided chest pain along with other symptoms is typical of angina or heart attack. At the least you need an EKG and cardiag enzymes checked.

Yes, I know you went to the ER last week and they found nothing. That does not mean that this episode is insignificant. Frustrating.

You stopped your Beta Blocker. That puts more demand on the heart. Your heart is working harder now and if it the vessels can not supply enought oxygen you are at risk for an another heart attack.
And you have already had a heart attack. That puts you at risk for another.

You also said the pain gets worse when coughing - type of pain associated with a pulmonary embolism. As another post pointed out a Pulmonary embolism can be fatal.

If you are not willing to go to an ER, call the covering doc for your LLMD or primary care physican and inform him that you have chest pain with all of the details, as well as the information about stopping the beta blocker.

but you see i do not trust them here.. these are the same one who told me i have nothing wrong with my back.. sent me home.. I have 3 herniated discs..

and I as put on fentynal shortly after this visit to the ER and they can not do enough for me they want to put a spinal cord stimulator in me but I dont think now is the time to do this.. as I called and canceled it Tuesday...

and The ER duck told me to exercize and loose some weight and I will be fine.. the last visit is the same as this one, I will be told there is nothing wrong and be sent home to follow up with my general.. I trust LLMD's for some reason I will wait for my appointment with him the end of the month.. I just dont trust them...

seems every move to another states gets me trusting doctors less and less...In florida I dont trust them at all with Lyme.. that is the generals.. I trust the llmd..

let him figure out what is going on and what meds to put me on.. I will sign a release for my medical records which i gave him to copy although i do not think he did... let him take over with the test results nad try something else... cause the way i am going now it will be no time before i want to pull the plug myself.. I am just going to wait and see.... tired of going to local ER and hearing that nothing is wrong..

I know the LLMD up north proved the local hospital all wrong .. cause while on orals I was at least feeling better... and it got me a few good years.. but on no treatment for a year I am in real bad shape and the generals here will not even address the Lyme issue.. so I will wait...I will not be on much cause it hurts to type ,,, later

Oh heaven sake I just could care less.. I want to quite working and hang in the pool 24/7 so i feel no pain.. no gravity no pain.. can we go to outer space please?? hey mayb that would kill these keeets?????!!!!

terrible that one hopsital can ruin it for all!

I understand that you might not trust the ER. But, if something is potentially life threatening, you need to address it ASAP.

So if your symptoms are possibly a heart attack or a pulmonary embolism, then those are things the ER knows how to check for. You are not going there for the final answer, you are going to make sure you are not having a heart attack or a clot.

Aniek,
Thank you for your concern,, but you know the only ER that ever took me seriously, I guess cause of my age, was the one back home where they knew my whole family had issues.. .. I went in in march of 2003 and they sent me home.. told me to rest and take it easy.... 2 weeks later I went back and they told me I had an abnormal EKG.. "can not rule out old septal MI..."

and that I have pleurisy around my lungs and I needed to follow up with a cardiologist... that cardiologist told me I was perfectly fine ... shrugged it off and sent me home.. said "just so you don't fall off the face of the earth we will make a follow up appointment with you for a year..." like it was a big joke..

I never went back to them and here to find out that something has been going on.. but no one seems concerned about I have been to my general just last week... he said it was a pulled muscle.. and to take time off work what ever i needed.. I have and I still am until I feel better....

why should I be made to feel like I neurotic because I go in with chest pains to the ER costing me 200 everytime I go and they say nothing is wrong.. .. and they dont take it seriously..

I have spent every penny of my income and more over teh past 2 months .. find out I have issues with my heart.. and I still am not feeling better.. I can not return to work so I have no money coming in right now to pay for all of this "I can't find any thing wrong with you Sh-t" although the general ran tests that prove there is something wrong...

I swear it is the darn bug playing in my vitals and I have no way to prove this.. it just makes me look like a hypocondriac... and I am tired of them implying I am one...

Call me crazy but if God wants me he can have me.. I sure won't have to live with this darn pain anymore..I am good and ready to give up the fight and I'm tired of hearing "nothing wrong.."

AS EVERY ONE ON THIS BOARD HAS HEARD TIME AND TIME AGAIN!!!

and listen to these people with all this education tell me there is nothing wrong with me.. even though if they were in my shoes they would deny what they are hearing... and demand an answer to why they feel the way they do which I have .. adn I am tired that they can sit there or stand there and blindly say ,,, sorry there is nothing wrong...I KNOW BETTER!!!

I'm better off coming here and listening to someone else tell me what they think it might be.. cause I sure get no where at the hospital... or at the local doctors office .. in order to get some good conversation about why I feel the way I do I have to go to my LLMD... SO SAD !!!

and everyone on here who knows me,, knows I am not piping off any BS>>> cause they all know I lost my dad and my husband to this all within the last 2 years....

It is just so sad that people on this board are more knowledgable than most doctors are about this disease!!! SO why is that....

Anyone else have any suggestion.. what will help my symptoms... any meds that anyone is on that has the same symptoms... that they find relief from the meds??

Sorry for being so seemingly negative.. but I really have no time to be bothered with people I know could care less about me and my lyme disease.. and think because I am only 45 that there is no way on earth or in heaven that I could have anything seriously wrong with me...If that were the case then why did my husband die at age 42???

Guess there was nothing wrong with him either huh..... guess not...

Hugs to you all.... I'm sure I will be fine and if not; my sons will be real upset and I doubt I will have to worry about how they manage the rest of their days cause someone will pay .. that is what they say... "someone will pay mom if we loose you...."

They have seen me suffer; I hold nothing back when it comes to telling them what this one said and what that one said. I keep all my records.. Man do I have a ton of them... they will surely have a good battle and lots of ammo....I am not ready to give up the fight but .. I am certainly not ready to linger forever with this pain...So what ever the case may be .. let it be...

but when i get to teh LLMD .. maybe I can mention some suggestions that some of you have tried for the same thing.... please!!!

OKAY I WILL CALL LLMD TOMMORROW AND SEE WHAT THEY TELL ME>> PROBABLY HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL END OF MONTH>> I WILL NOT GO TO ER!!!!I am going to get in with my pain management Doc.. when she gets back in office.. she was out sick today too....

Thnx.. Linda D

Last summer I was bounced around badly in the ER. I went in for severe air hunger that set off a wierd heart rhythm. Muscles were all jelly.

Well, they tested my pulse oxygen with the clamp on the finger, normal except for a minute or so in the ambulance. (not an appropriate evaluation for muscular respiratory problems, but that's another story)

They did nothing for mew and sent me home after 12 hour observation, unable to even walk to the bathroom.

HOWEVER, my family dr., who sent me to the ER in the first place, told me that there is an unwritten rule that if you keep returning to the ER with the same complaint, they have to take care of you and not just send you on your way.

His advice to me at the time was that no matter how silly I may feel, I should go back and make them earn their salaries.

You may want to present the situation as someone who has been dx with cardiac issues, and only mention the lyme when the take a more complete history.

Go to a different ER. They are only as good as their staff and that really varies.
My grandma fell and we took her to one ER and they sent her home. We turned around and took her to another and they found 9 broken bones. I work in a hospital and my ER is so bad I wouldn't take my dog there.
Usually the smaller hospitals will see you faster and take more time.

Hope your okay check in .

How are you? Are you feeling better?
Did you speak to any of your doctors about your chest pain?

Look into Tularemia and Bartonella as well. They can cause pains like this as well.

Thank you all for your replies and concerns..
I went to the pain management doctor and as I suspected it is nothing they can help me with.. giving me message therapy without some involvemnet with the cervical because of the fusion...set up in chiropractors office...BP was 150/100 so I do need those beta blockers to keep my BP under control..
???

they said this is pulmonary and heart issues and I need to address them with a general MD.. and get some answers so I called and left a message with them.. they said they would call back I haven't heard anything as yet.. but with out a note by Monday in my files at work I am being discharged from my position...no extended income, no benefits anymore..

She saw me in her office and knows I can not return this way and can do nothing about my position unless, I I have a note .. I told the MD's office this .. they said they understand.. but no call yet..
I will post later right now i have to get off here...
Later hug thanks for your support..
Linda
