Geez. Ive been on Nortriptiline for a week now. Its causing really bad tingling in my arms and hands. Why???? I thought it was supposed to help with nerve problems, not create them!
Im weaning off the prilosec. I read a magazine add for Nexium yesterday. In their disclosure information, it states "Not recommended for use beyond 6mos and Omeprazole (the main ingredient in Nexium and prilosec), has been noted to occassionally cause atrophic gastritis in gastric corpus biopsies from pateints treated long-term"
Now see? I never had any stomach pains till I was on the stupid stuff in the first place.

Hi Nal
I would put in a call to your doc about the nortriptline. I've never taken it but those side effects don't sound good.
Re: the prilosec/nexium. I have been on prilosec for only 2-3 months & haven't been able to wean off.
My mom's beeen on prilosec for 2 years!. Everytime she tryes to go off she gets really worse. I think she might get that re-bound acid they speak about. I also think she should be tested for H-pylori.
She said some people who have chronic GERD have to stay on the nexium for life. This doesn't sound right to me. She's not a doctor only used to be a nurse.
Maybe if you have the GB taken out this will help you to get of the PPI's?
Wish I really knew some answers for you. At this point can only give me deepest sympathys.

Im quitting the nortriptiline as well. I have had antidepressants cause tingling for me before in the past.
I always seem to have that 1 "rare" side effect from a medicine happen to me! I see my LLMD on Monday and Ill ask him about it.
I also think I am ready to take something for anxiety. Its really starting to get to me lately. I know I am also nervous about the gallbladder surgery coming up soon! Oh well.

I was on Nexium for at least a year...maybe longer. I am off all of those meds now since they didn't do squat for me.
I bet I was on some sort of PPI (Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, etc) for most of the past three years on and off.
Are you saying that long-term use causes stomach cancer??

Im not a dr so of course I have no idea. All I know is that I read this in an add for Nexium that was in my Womens Day magazine.
I just wish dr's would take these warnings from drug companies a little more seriously. Sometimes I think they get wined and dined so much from the big representatives that they dont' always care about what the meds can sometimes do to people.

Is atropic gastritis- cancer?
I have read that long term GERD or gastritis can lead to some stomach cancers.

No, atrophic gastritis is not cancer. It is a form of gastritis.
